Topic: Paying? | |
---|---|
Alright so the girl I'm seeing and I are going out for the first time thursday night to the movies (first two times we chilled was in her dorm). So I was joking around earlier that she was using me for the movie because she said she's excited for the movie and i said oh not me what are you using me for a ride and she said no i have my own money. I was planning on paying for her to show her that I do want to be more than just some guy shes dating.. should I offer even though she said this?

Oh, my!!!!!! Clean this situation up by purchasing the tickets in advance, and if the subject comes up, you tell her it is absolutely your treat and an honor to do so. Buying the tickets in advance will remove any doubt in her mind that you intended to do it in the first place, plus she'll know you are thoughtful enough to make sure you two get in. Cheeeeeese, you young people!!!!

Be a man and pay for it. I have every intention of paying, but she made the "I have my own money" comment. |

Be a man and pay for it. I have every intention of paying, but she made the "I have my own money" comment. That's because you put her in a spot with your comment about interest in movie vs YOU!!! She had to defend her independence and clear up assumptions with your statement. |

She said that because you were teasing her about her using you. Not because she wanted to pay for it. If it is a date and you asked her then just get the tickets so it isn't a question anymore.

i don't mean to insult a guy when i offer to pay my way....but they always seem to feel insulted and then they make jokes like the one you made.. |

Unless asked beforehand, as a favor, 'cause I'm obviously southern, I always pay . . . for everything. Duh? I'm 21st century, but I'm still a man.

I let my last date pick up the check at dinner, after a little wrestling. (sp)
We are going out again this wk-end. I am paying this time. |

You should absolutely pay.

Listen, couples argue about money enough after they are married or in an LTR. Don't start now. Just pay, or if she insist let her. Don't make a big deal out of it. The pre-purchased tickets were a great idea. If she bristles, let her buy the popcorn. But stop teasing her about money, it is in very, very, wicked poor taste.

It sounded like she made the comment more in jest since you were kidding around about her motivations for going out with you. I would play it cool and once you get up to the box office, say 2 adults and whip out your wallet right away with the intention of paying. Make sure you bring enough money of course. If she wants to step in at that point, insist that you pay. You will score points this way and also, you should be paying if you asked her out. That is proper first date etiquette. That would include dinner also if you are doing that. |
