They can refer to themselves as an African American if they so choose because in THIS particular case, the terminology that is being utilized is NOT referring to where the person physically resides but instead their ethnic heredity.

Who is asking that everyone "adhere to that demand."? If someone wants to define themselves as African American based on their ethnic background, there is nothing incorrect about that title. It is you who are arguing otherwise on some unfounded non-nonsensical premise. Who is demanding that we accept a premise here exactly? I do not refer to myself as an Italian American because I do not see the reason to. I go by my name. That is my personal choice.
