Victor Wooten is probably the best in my book - he is ungodly.
Matt Freeman of Rancid is my favorite as far as my tastes go though. |

Pretty much any bass player that is "out there" in terms of showmanship (and please, let him have a lick of talent!)
The stereotypical bass player hangs back and is in a world of their own, so somebody who really gets into the performance makes a statement for me! |

All those famous bass players have impacted music in a great way. They are all easily the top bass players
I personaly like Jaco Pastorius Others that have influnced me too : Paul Mcartney Guillermo Vadala, TIm Commerford But there are just so many great ones out there |

"The best" is too subjective and visceral. For me, I prefer somebody who can lay down a solid thump on the lower end with just enough panache to be interesting, rather than somebody who can go "bdlbdlbdlbdlbdlbdlbdl" all over the fretboard to see who can play 50 notes the fastest.
I like the person who can smack that big ol' growly bass and let you know they're there. Somebody like Steve Harris, Tony Montana, or Bruno Ravel. |

John Paul Jones John Entwhistle Chris Squire Roger Waters Flea Geddy Lee Stanley Clarke Jaco Pastorius Jack Bruce Geezer Butler Guess you can't pick just one, Ed..... actually, I need to amend my choice....brain wasn't working right last night.....I meant to say Jack Bruce (not Jeff Beck) |

Jack Bruce. Zappa said he was hard to work with because he doesn't play bass in terms of its "root function," but it works for me.
