Does anyone watch this show?

I started watching it last year, always curious about "people who aren't like me" - thinking I was going to see some people getting taught how to be womanizing A-holes.

And instead, it turned out to be a great show, where these totally inhibited loser-types learned how to be attractive and confident. ...a side effect, of course, was they were then able to pick up ladies.

At any rate, there's a Pickup Artist 2 on now - figured someone on a singles forum would watch it!

If the host really picks up women, then I give up. I won't wear more makeup than the women I'm trying to date and I won't dress like I just stole my clothes from Elton John either. Are there any women who are really attracted to a guy with lots of eye makeup, a cowboy hat and a feather bola?

That's the whole catch...
Attraction is about working with what you got. The host himself has said he's naturally awkward looking.

The cool part about the show is that they show these guys how to be charistmatic, how to create intrigue in others, and the psychology behind communication.

If that guy walked into the room with that goofy look, people would look at him and definitely would say "what's with that guy?" He's different.

This season isn't really as good at last year - they showed the lessons and made more points about that stuff last year.

IMO mystery (or is it MisterE) is pretty hot when he isn't dressed like a baffon! he's the type of guy i normally like (not sure if he comes with a*hole attitude like the rest)when he looks normal. that matador dude is cute too but i'm going to need him to let go of the mesh shirts!

lol... I know what you mean. I'm kind of envious of that matador guy though - he's about 20 pounds off from being a full blown professional wrestler size guy! But in a good way... and I could never pull off the long hair thing. But I always pictured him sort of the opposite of Mystery... actually legitimately attractive where Mystery has to rely on his tricks - intersting to hear you do think he's attractive!

well i my first (hopefully one of many) sexual peak during the grunge era of rock and roll. all the guys in high school i wanted looked like mystery. i'm telling you, if he looks like that and can play the guitar, i fear i may need to mail him some unmentionables!

There was once a Bloodhound Gang song called "I wish I was queer, so I could get chicks"

I would be attracted to Mystery. But a few of his outfits go into what I call full blown Pimp mode. Um, no thanks. That just sets off negative connotations.

As for helping nerds and geek come out of their shells, it isn't so bad. But ultimately, I felt like he was teaching them to pick up girls for the 'hook-up' not for anything more meaningful.

And yes, I watched the entire first season , so it isn't like I just saw an episode and jumped to conclusions.

And what is this business with 'wingmen'. Pretentious much. Even thought I find Mystery to be attractive, his attitude would be a total turn off.

That show pisses me off, but its sooo addicting... the dorks on that show are so cute though.. in an awkward kind of way.. especially brian... who knew he could get away with telling a girl "I like Pickle Juice" ?

That's the thing - it's the transformation from "completely socially inept" to "master of the universe". And not by really doing anything but manipulating the variables of what controls attraction - the science of psychology.

I was a huge fan of Beauty and the Geek maybe even more - because it did the same thing - zero to hero - and then on the other hand, took a bunch of delusional girls and helped bring them down to earth.

I'll admit I've never seen this show. It sounds very interesting. But I'd love to see a Beauty and the geek reverse. Where they had these outrageous men and a bunch of geeky women. It would be interesting because I went to a school filled with nerdy gamers who actually do the "socks with sandles and shorts" thing. It wasn't unusual to see them have these gorgeous girlfriends, never the other way around.

it is addicting late at night and vh1 isnt afraid to ONLY show reruns of the same 3 shows.

The thing that bothers me is watching them get rejected by trying retarted things like "opening a set"... "opening a 4 set".

whatever happened to just buying a woman a drink, giving a compliment.

i just don't get the trickery that is needed to get a woman in bed. lol

That's what I mean - it's not trickery if you really see what they are doing. Trickery is letting women test you - is she letting you buy her a drink as an opportunity to meet you? Aren't chances better that she's letting you buy her a drink because "oh well, at least I get a drink?"

One of his rules of last season is to never buy a woman a drink, and there's some great logic behind that...
Then, you aren't lowering yourself to being the same as every other guy in the bar, and no perception of desperation... so you aren't basically "paying her" to talk to you. "Oh please talk to me, I'll buy you a drink if you do" is really what that gesture is all about, if you think about it. And if you want to meet 4 or 5 women, besides becoming an expensive night, you look increasingly desperate.

Compliments too, as strange as that might seem (I'm a nice guy, I definitely drift to that side), but not only could that be interpreted as "he's just saying that to get in my pants", but it is sort of disingenuine if you use that to meet a woman - kind of cheesy, since you really don't know her enough to compliment her.

Really, it boils down to flipping the game around. Use the trickery that women rely on...
if they buy you a drink, you know they like you, more so than women would know if a guy bought them a drink since so many of them are just playing the bar game...
If you temper your compliments with some light, but genuine criticisms, it not only brings her down to reality, but makes your compliments understood as sincere.

It actually makes sense - they just aren't covering much of the "why would they do what they do" on this season. :-(

maybe the not uncovering the why they do what they do is the part i'm missing.

I'm not walking up to a group of 3 women and saying, "I like pickle juice."

Even if I knew the reason you would do something that retarted, I wouldnt do that, but still... they do need to give some logic behind it.

There strategies are too goofy that they have shown with no explanation to even think about trying.

Total agreement.

But I still think you should try out the pickle juice line next time you are out... laugh

I wonder if you can buy or watch the first season - that was better because of that
