I am glad you brought this up. I like to express and opinion but I think you can tell what you think about a subject with out attacking the speaker.

The name calling and personal insults and picking on people who are just looking for some friendly support when they are in pain is totally un called for.

I personally think if someone is attacted publiclly in forums you can tell them privately or publiclly that you didn't like it. A simple endorsement of your friend and their right to not be insulted is enough. That doesn't have to turn the forums into a popularity contest or cheerlead on arguements versus discussions.

I generally let people defend themselves because I respect you all as adults to shake off truely ignorant stuff but the lines are being crossed too often and I have often been tempted to reference the long stand compliment of disapproval "Honey that was such a darlin thing to say." I have just felt such subtle ways would be lost on most of them. Telling someone to apologize for their behavior usually negates the apology.

While some of you are younger and have the energy to punch bullies in the nose verbally (which most of them enjoy since it is better than no attention at all) most of you will learn the wisdom in the saying "There is no punishment like silence for a fool." By ignoreing their remarks or refuseing to be baited into anger they have defeated themselves by showing their real colors. It may take being shut out many times before they correct their behavior but eventually it works.

I do think it is important to keep in mind that cyber bullies can and do up there game into real life and or do a lot of emotional damage. There are people who do have fragile personalities and personal attacks do cause real pain even if they are only a key stroke. Many people need the approval for their survival. For some the perceptions that the world gives them comes primarily from their computer because they are more or less invisible everywhere else. There are many documented cases where cyber bully victims do serious harm to themself or others because they have no where else to take their anger.

I don't think the moderators can always deal with this issue. Maybe a gentle, or not so gentle if it comes is numbers, "Moderate your comments" would help. It is worth a try when you see something you don't think is within boundries.

Communities like this can set boundries by limiting the behavior of angry people by disinclusion. If they can not get a response they will up the behavior to try and get attention and then when they are ignored they will leave.

even when we try to ignore someone whos being a complete ass they decide to come in and attack others in diffrent threads. they are rabid about getting trouble started. fun is fun, and done is done. and once done, it cant be undone.
