I checked the snopes website and this is true.

For those of you with little ghosts and goblins in your lives.

Don't eat those!

The little chocolate coins are not safe for kids to eat this Halloween.
They are made in China and contain the Melamine that children's deaths were
related to recently. !!!!!!!

With Halloween coming soon, pass this on to your family and friends.

Sherwood's Milk Chocolate Pirate's Gold Coins from China contain
melamine.

Just to be on the safe side, stick to other candies this year, or if you can secure American made Chocolate coins, then go ahead.

Jeez....you can't trust candy on Halloween, you can't set off good fireworks on Fourth Of July because they go BOOM, you can't put up Christmas decorations because somebody is gonna whine about it....why don't we just do away with all the holidays completely and become robots and be done with it?

Oh, wait....there's already people attempting to do that.

If the Indians had given the Pilgrims a donkey instead of a turkey, we'd all be getting a piece of ass for Thanksgiving.

Okay have done a little research myself about this and here is some more information to add to this.

Sherwood Brands' Pirate's Gold milk chocolate coins imported from China.

HOUSTON, Texas, Oct. 27 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) -- With the recent news reports of melamine-tainted chocolate coins coming out of China, there has been some public question regarding the safety of chocolate coins sold in the United States. Images in Chocolate, LLC, a 15-year-old Houston, TX-based chocolate manufacturer marketing their chocolate coins online at ChocolateCoinStore.com spoke about the recent scare.

"This is an isolated case with chocolate coins manufactured in China," said Tim Dugan, CEO. "Our chocolate coins are made with 100% Belgian Callebaut chocolate and contain absolutely no melamine whatsoever...never have, never will." On October 8, 2008, Canada's food inspection agency issued a consumer advisory warning the public not to eat Sherwood Brands' Pirate's Gold milk chocolate coins imported from China. "The chocolate coins we produce are of the highest Belgian quality," stated Dugan, "Only the purest ingredients are included in order to make our chocolate coins with the highest standards possible."

Melamine is an industrial chemical compound that some Chinese milk-based product manufacturers have added to their products in an attempt to artificially inflate the reading for protein levels. Chronic exposure to melamine can cause a number of severe health issues including bladder or kidney stones, acute kidney failure, reproductive damage, respiratory irritation and bladder cancer. Melamine has been discovered in a number of Chinese manufactured products that are formulated with milk, including baby formula, ice cream, and chocolate coins.

Chocolate coins exported from China have been the only ones linked to the melamine scandal. For U.S. consumers, knowing that your chocolate coins are made with 100% Belgian chocolate should allay any fears regarding its safety. "Our corporate mission has always been to emphasize quality above all else," said Dugan. "Our decision to use Callebaut chocolate, a 150-year manufacturer and the choice of world-renowned chefs and specialty chocolatiers was an easy one for us. Their commitment to the highest standards in chocolate production is unrivaled."

Just thought a bit more information could not hurt. So if you have bought candy already check to see if you have any of the Chocolate Coins from CHINA!!

It is really irrateing to me that for the 35 years that I have been interested in food testing that our government food safety programs are one of the worst under funded agencies (comparitively speaking to our gross national product)of many nations of the world.

What we are doing to test imported foods should scare the heck out of people.

Because we don't have the laws that prevent the corporate retailers that have lobbyists, insurance, and lawyers to pass the buck back up the line so you don't have a lot of recourse once something is manufactured off shore does kind of fall on the public. Don't kid yourself if you tell your elected officials you are out of a job if this crap keeps coming on our table the laws would change.

The cheapest food is not always your best option. Not insisting on buying American produced foods is why they are so terribly expensive and why many of the food processors here are out of business or very near it.

On the flip side of that the amount of inferior products that we ship to other countries when they won't pass inspection here is shameful.

What infuriates me is every year I do a food drive and people will give food that clearly shows is out of date, spoiled, or otherwise compromised wasteing precious time and resources of charities trying to reduce malnutrition here in the USA.

Humm this is not only CHOCOLATES MAKE SURE YOU READ;

I WOULD CHECK FOR ANY PRODUCT THAT COMES FROM CHINA THAT HAS A MILK IN IT. IT EVEN EFFECTS SOME BISCUITS AND MARS CANDIES MADE IN CHINA SHSHSH

EVEN BABY POWDER MILK FROM CHINA!!

Widening scandal

In Jakarta, the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency said on Monday that it had found traces of melamine in chocolate and biscuit products apparently made in China by Kraft Foods and Mars.

The two companies said they were investigating the claims, although their products had earlier been cleared of melamine tainting.

Some reports raised the possibility the products - including Oreo wafers, M&Ms and Snickers - could be counterfeit.

"We have asked our trade partners and retailers to suspend the sales of our products in accordance to the agency's order," the Mars spokesman in Indonesia, Bondan Ardi, told the Associated Press on Monday.

The companies involved said they would conduct their own tests.

The scandal came to light earlier this month when baby milk powder from the Sanlu Group was found to contain the industrial chemical melamine.

Since then, at least 22 other companies have been implicated.

Melamine is used in making plastics and is high in nitrogen, which makes products appear to have a higher protein content.

Health experts say that ingesting small amounts does no harm but sustained use can cause kidney stones and renal failure, especially among the young.

P.S. Don't just check the kid's candy. Seniors are trying to save pennies and frequently have tainted food in their cabinets. Rather than give more junk like christmas stockings, or stuffed animals, or poisonous plants such as Poinsettias that are a nightmare for Caregivers and pet lovers give the Seniors near you gift cards for the grocery nearest them. Even a couple of dollars is a big help. It might seem like a kindness to give fresh fruit or nuts but most of the time it is just waisted if it is more than one small serving.
