Obama/Biden vs McCain/Palin, what if things were switched around?.....think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? (10/8/08

Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including

a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?

What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?

What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severe disfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if

Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while he was still married?

What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to pain killers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five were five United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late 1980s and early 1990s.)

What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

What if Obama couldn't read from a teleprompter?

What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?

What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many

occasions, a serious anger management problem?

What if Michelle Obama's family had made their money from beer distribution?

What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

what if we had an election just once without people having to demonize the candidates and we juat focused on issues

I agree it would be much more productive if our election process concentrated on issues alone.

Yet, when I read this I had to admit that there does seem to be social double standards at work.

sounds like mccain is the most like the the regular ""joe""

After reading all the political posts on here and the different opinions expressed, I have come to the conclusion that as humans and Americans we agree to disagree on politics. Which is fine and normal. Just like in a relationship you are not totally agree with everything your partner does or says.
Personally Obama scares me with his views on "changing" America. I see him as a wolf in sheeps clothing, beneath his charsmatic charm and his eloquent speeches. During the debates and speeches given he always has the "right" things to say.The "right" answers to all of America's problems.
Humm he would make an excellent televanglist!
I hope I am wrong in my intutions. If not we have not seen the worst of economic times and downward spiraling of America.

I can't wait to see Obama's changes. I saw him speak in St. Louis and he had a lot of say about his plans.

I think it is rather disingenuous not to admit that if Obama did have some of the traits and had made some of the life choices his opponents had, we wouldn't even be talking about him. Americans would not let a Black man get away with that.

Sadly, you're correct.

so true... how dare a black candidate be more intelligent, eloquent and have a better quality character than his white opponent.... therefore he "pals around with terrorists", he's not "like us".

I like how people chastise obama for not sticking to the issues and being all talk... however when mcCain spends his campaign "turning the page" on the subject of the economy during a financial crisis and decides to start spending his time making dangerous and racist innuendos about obama this is somehow extremely pertinent.

when McCain chooses someone as his VP who is as dumb as my shoe because she's attractive and would bring crowds to his rallies, while forgoing thought about how that person would help him govern or heaven forbid take over, its forgiveable... had Obama done that he would be exhibiting deplorable judgement and it would be considered a prelude to the type of decisions he would make in office.
In everything Obama does, in everything obama says, he has had to be twice as good as McCain to get where he is and it shows in the polls.

McCain, if Obama's popularity is a condemnable offence, why'd you seek to copy it at the expense of your country...
jealous much??

Maybe McCain's biggest problem is McCain and Palinslaphead

Maybe the reason that all of those voters are NOT voting for McCain is because of McCain!!! And Palin!!

Might just be that you have all been had... Has happened before.

Claim negative while slamming away quietly with your own. Claim that race will be used against you while using it yourself. Claim your going to do something about every aspect of pain that americans are feeling yet your track record has shown you to be a PART OF THE PAIN.

Most Americans seem to believe what the are told. Check of the facts causes the speachifien to be revealed for what it is. HOLLOW WORDS to effect the agenda of the speaker. How many will see that in time... Oh yeah they won't he said vote early so they DID. Can't change it now.
