I agree there is a need to articulate. However, isn't the general idea of a forum to exchange ideas and opinions? Granted that some are less articulate than others and need to be asked for more clarification, but that's the purpose, right? Everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless of their handle on grammar. A forum should be a place where anyone can go and give an opinion. If someone says "all men" and doesn't really mean it, it will surface with more discussion and questioning. To dismiss someone's opinion out of hat because of their grammar is a little judgmental, don't you think? If the need for perfect grammar is essential to have an opinion, then I would suggest the perfect grammar individuals start their own forum where they can exchange views. We have the ability to tell people when we think they are off base. Using anger, or terse words in opposition is the foundation for much of the resentment found in these threads.

Hmmm. I say if someone can't say what they really mean on a discussion forum where the only means of communication is the written word, they should say fvck it and stay out of the forums.

I figure it this way. That poster up there said that we aren't here to " prove our intelligence ". Well...I hate to break it to you, but when someone comes here and make a post that doesn't even qualify as English ( run on sentence, text message spelling, inability to use the proper form of words ) , that shows one of two things. It's either a lack of intelligence, or it's simply laziness.

Either way, for a lot of us, that kind of thing is a major turn off.

My personal preference is that someone show some intelligence in their posts. That doesn't necessarily mean they have to PROVE it. Big difference between the two.

That doesn't mean that it's a requirement to have an opinion. What it does mean is that it IS a requirement to catch my attention.

The people who post in here and are not understood know who they are. And usually? They could care less. You're a newbie.... you don't know the half of it.

There was one guy who'd post this verbal sewage and everyone said WTF??? He continued to do it, for months. He finally left. Trust me, when folks aren't clear, we tell them.

And, almost an afterthought....if they can't "lay it down on paper" there are speed dating opportunities and phone chat services. Or, they can just go to MySpace.

Exactly. Not your type, which is fine. But who are you or I to judge whether they should be posting on an open public forum or not. Most of the time they are crucified. It is no wonder they chose not to post anymore. They are just people looking for a date. Whether they can spell, or articulate themselves well does not diminish their status as human, or as having a right to post on a dating site.

The only time I have ever seen anyone get " crucified " ( which by the way is SEVERELY overstating things ) is when the poster either posts something that is almost completely unintelligible, or when they have posted something on a subject that people later realize goes completely against something the poster has previously said.

Sure they do. And when we repeatedly say we can't understand them, after awhile it just gets rude.
