There going to end up sinking there own ship.

More moerators equals more warnings and more people getting deactivated....then in turn, no one will want to be on the site because they are afraid of getting the boot or they feel their friends got the boot unjustly.

That's not necessarily true.

The moderators should be here strictly for the purpose of keeping things from getting out of hand. I have seen some boards, when unmoderated, devolve into nothing more than constant flame fests.

The moderators here, from what I can see and what I have been told, usually tread pretty lightly and aren't all that intrusive in the general scheme of things.

I would see more of a problem if there WEREN'T any moderators around here. Think about it...constant foul language ( because we know that most people, when not required to, have no clue as to the concept of self censorship )...people getting bashed for no other reason than someone happens to be in a foul mood on a particular day...insults and attacks simply for the hell of it.

How many users do you think would actually stick around then??

" Can't stand the heat...". Please. Lines like that usually come from people who actually want the chaos that would ensue from being on a moderator free forum. Not saying that is the case with the OP....but I know lots of people like that.
still don't think we need more

Yeah, a couple more good ones would be useful. Again, we are always considering potential candidates

Okay I have stayed out of this thread up till now. All I will say if your gonna quote someone don't just quote what benefits your needs please make sure you gather all the info that Charles said in that thread. This is also what he said:

Here is the link for those that want to read what was asked and what was said:

We are always on the lookout new/more moderators. At the same time, we don't want too many chefs to spoil the broth, or so to speak. The most important factor, though, is that we insist on people who are well-suited for the duty.

In any event, we have to keep in mind that the mods are volunteers and do a bang-up job with the forums being open 24/7, in my estimation.

So tell me what is so bad about it the members themselves are the one asking for more Mods even. bigsmile

This is due to time zones and the times some of us are not here when problems arise.

We are really here to help. I encourage anyone to write me or any other mod if you have any questions or concerns. I'm not aware of any increase or changes in moderation at this point, no drastic take overs in the future here guys. I'd like to see everyone speak their mind in whatever topic (as various or random). My motto is to each their own as long as it's not offending another member and hindering their right to post happily. I'd hate to think of a site without moderation. It would be hard to carry any discussion through the spam/advertisements and bots.

We are here to help, and administration really listens! I suggest you write any administrator if you have a concern or suggestion. They are always up for feedback.

The fine line that the mods have to walk is between avoiding having someone get " offended " and having people who say things that are TRULY offensive just to get a reaction.

Having to be the one(s) that determine what is and isn't " offensive " is a very tough thing to do.

If you want to bash censorship, go for it

If you want to support more mods go for it

If you want to brown nose the mods, go for it

all opinions are welcome in this thread

Personally i really like the way this site is moderated. Its not an easy job to do at all, and considering that the mods dont get paid to do it, we should all be thankful for their efforts.

I dont think any more mods are need per se. I think the problems occur when a mod is needed but none are online. Its impossible to ensure that there is always someone here to deal with the crap, but the more mods there are, the more likely one will be online.

I think we get away with a lot here, compared to other sites, and are by no means over-censored.

No one's getting defensive here. I saw a question posed, and I'm trying to help answer the question I saw about the current moderation.

Like I stated before there is no great increase in moderation. Moderators are members just like anyone else and we come on and off just as our lives get busier or slow down, we may be on the site more often or less..which is why its important we have a good team of mods. Also why other mods may be needed or considered in the future.

Lastly the link in question was posted December of last year, and yes one moderator has been added to the team since then...which would be myself. So an addition of one moderator per year doesnt sound like much of an increase to me?

Again...Im just trying to help, but if you do have concerns/suggestions please pass them to administration! They are so helpfull!

You did good all I'm saying is in the first place you made the comment they were considering more Mods for the reason to censorship the threads even more. Which is not the case actually we are fair with decisions and they see no need to censorship any more then what we do.

What the plan is for is in order to have more Mods for the simple reason Mods are not here at any certain times. Therefore there are times that no Mods are online to help take care of the problems that arise. Therefore finding Mods that are on very late at night or during the night will help eliminate that problem in the long run.

No one at any time said they were going to crack down if any thing else in case some have not noticed there is a lot that the members get away with saying here they would not on another site. Van & Mike do not want to totally censorship the Threads they are more concerned with members attacking another then anything. That is what the Mods mainly deal with and 90% of the time that is what members get warnings, suspensions or banned for.

So I can't see where that is a bad idea without that happening these threads would end up a free for all.

Yeah I know. I wasn't implying that you thought there shouldn't be any.

My post was, for the most part, a reply to the general tone of some other posts. Your post just happened to be the one that caught my attention and formed the thought for my reply.

No offense intended, dude. drinker

just started a topic as to hating censorship, mentioned I had read where some wanted more mods and it was said that they are looking for more.
Don't think we need more myself, everyone has their own idea on the matter though.

and I say again, if they can't stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen, wont happen but my thoughts, ideas and topic so that someone wouldn't say, "eww your off topic, this should be here or there, i'm gonna report you, blah, blah, blah

Well as far as those issue go even though going off topic is part of the rules as well as high jacking is. The only cases that we actually step in on those if it is done in extreme. For if you notice every single thread in these forums go off topic at times. We understand that will happen and we do leave that alone for it is normal. Once in a great while we will get in and tell them to get back on topic. Normally that is due to someone attacking another and the thread goes off talking about the one that was attacking.

As far as members saying I'm gonna report you it does not mean we go in and edit a post or anything. There are times the report is not sufficient enough for any actions to be taken. But we do look at each report and take the actions that are needed. If we have a question about what to do then we get Admin in on it and let them make the final decisions.

But adding new Mods at this time is not due to more censorship it is only to ensure someone is here if there is a problem and nothing more.
