Dear Diary;

My girlfriend called me tonight and told me something that i still cannot believe. She said today one of the dogs at the animal shelter got lose from his cage and killed a cat who was a permanent resident (which means the lived on the grounds outside). And she told me it was Boo Boo Kitty, which is my hands down favorite cat at the shelter.

That cat won everyone's heart because she was so gentle around kittens, and loved to rough house with humans. And when someone was petting her, she would stick her tongue out and it looked really goofy. And if there was food near by, she would run to the food bowl, get a big mouthful and run back over so she can be pet while eating. And she would run back and forth like that until you stopped petting. Another game she played was her version of the hand slapping game. She would roll over on her back and the person would try to rub her belly without getting smacked. Everyone else would get a light paw slap, but when i played, she used claws, teeth and bunny kicks. But if i ever said "ouch" she would pull her claws in and to a small slap. I still have scars from this game.

She had big green eyes and was mostly white with a small coat of calico painted on her back. And she had little ear spikes of hair on the tips of her ears, like how some wild cats have.

I remember sitting under a tree at the shelter with her falling asleep in my lap. I really wish this was all a stupid dream and when I wake up I'll go to the shelter and find Boo Boo Kitty asleep in the garden. But no matter how many times i pinch myself i never wake up and still find myself crying over the loss of my favorite cat at the shelter. I planned to take her home with me one day when i could afford a new apartment. But that dream is gone, just like her.
