apparently she received one too many "I know I'm ugly, but..." messages.

I say you relpy to them by saying, "Yes you are, but that's OK because ugly is in this season."

Sometimes you just need an icebreaker and not everyone can be witty.

Now to me...THAT would be a really good response. Not only does it show a good sense of humor, but it also allows the person who sent the email to perhaps relax a bit.

That was the best responce. I like the way you think. most people are just looking for an ice breaker but don't know were to begin. It's nice when people give you a chance and at least try and talk with you. I am just trying to say thanks for your respons. Aloha

Hey, I'm just looking for excuses, OK?

The writing thing is really no big deal. I have fun with it, and if I can sell a few books, all the better.

I just found it interesting that the OP talks about guys sending negative-themed e-mails, and how that's a turnoff, when my experience has been that it doesn't make any difference how positive, amusing, interesting, relevant, etc., the e-mail really is -- you still ain't getting a reply!

I know this may sound dumb..... so don't be hatin on the baby now.... but in my experiences, if the message sender is way down on themselves, I am not even interested in finding out why because most of the time it is because of low self worth issues that I CANNOT even BEGIN to sort through and frankly don't have enough emotional stamina myself to sort through anothers self loathing problems.

Second: If they are TTOOOOOOO sappy and sweet with horrible grammer and punctuation, then they are almost always foriegners living outside the U.S. posing as someone inside the country so they can "just get communication going" enough to hopefully get you to like them enough to explain some tragic story how they ended up stranded outside the U.S. and just need a "Loving, compassionate person" to get them a green card and ticket home again.

So Lex you are partially right there. To pitiful = no response, to sappy with horrible grammer = no response.

would sending an email with something totally random for content be more acceptable? you know... something like...

'cow farts are responsible for global warming! and pop-tarts, too!'
Wow!!!! I am in love:laughing:

 I`m still waiting for an e-mail like that.

Oh yeah, if the spelling and punctuation and grammar of the thing appear as though it had been typed by a delusional baboon, I'm sending a "Thanks for writing" and that's about it.

(I do get a fair number from people who say "I hope you won't make fun of my spelling, but...." -- and I never do, in that situation.)

The ones I like are the ones that show some thought, some intellect, some creativity. And I do get some of those, but they're always from people who are 897,000 miles away and/or ineligible as "dating prospects" for any number of reasons.

But that's OK because it's always nice to make new friends here....
