I am not sure if this is true. I found this blog posted to the news site fark.com. It can be read in it's entirity at the Outdoor Life site.
What do you all think about this? We just got a call from Devline Rossell, a charter captain based out of Venice, Louisiana. “I just left a sporting goods store and you would think that the number-one selling item would be plywood or potable water or gasoline right now,” he said. “Apparently it is AR-15s and .223 ammo. I watched at least 20 people buy AR-15s and cases of .223.” |

there was a very nasty lawlessness post Katrina. people
are justifiably terrified. it is scary. and the ransacking of your house and stealing of all your belongings, assault, rape, vandalism... everything is on the table. and much of the stable population has already left. it is Mad Max on steroids. NSF |

Yes there was looting and some violence but not on the scale the media initial reported. Check the facts. It was bad enough to have CIA raids with shoot on site. In NO it was really bad. Even in lake charles, my cousins had to guard their generator outside with a riffle. |

I think all Americans should be armed...the way most of you are so trigger happy its enough to solve the problem of American corporate imperialism for the rest of the world.... go NRA!!!! It is a wonderful freedom that we are able to arm ourselves. The operative word is FREEDOM. Can you imagine how the Chinese, Cuban, and North Korean governments would change if their citizens were armed? You assume that everyone who owns a weapon is an evil person bent on destruction. Don't be so quick to let fear lead you. I enjoy range practice and stopped at at Gander Mountain to look at a S&W 50 cal. Here is an educational page of Argentina. http://www.csmonitor.com/2002/0422/p06s02-woam.html When you spend so much time worrying about the freedoms of the US, I am happy to help keep you informed of your own country's issues. And before you mention that the page is from 2002, I will add that not much has changed to date. Argentina is the world's third largest manufacturer of hand guns. Two manufacturers are privately held and the largest of the three is government owned. Ummmm, is that a log in your eye? |

My sister went down there for a semester, she didn't say anything about people being hateful at all O_o I can see why. From everything I have read, Argentina is very friendly to foreigners as they rely heavily on revenue from tourism, plus they are just really nice folks. Beautiful scenery and major league beautiful women but stay out of the high crime areas around Buenos Aires. |

I have a friend who lives in Kenner, and during Katrina he had shot at several looters trying to break into his house. If everyone had a gun in N.O., looting during a hurricane would never be an issue.

I did service work in Lake Charles and New Orleans after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and it was nasty. My worksite had armed 24 hour security because people were trying to break in and steal stuff from our work sites.

I am a gun owner and strongly supporter of the right of every citizen to own a gun. Maybe several guns.
Bet that surprises a few of you eh? The NRA can kiss my a$$. Owning a gun, like voting is a privileged afford to us by the Constitution. A privilege fairly recently affirmed by SCOTUS. When you muck up you lose privileges. The NRA's extremism has made many non-gun owners view every gun owner as an extremist. By consistently opposing any legislation that speaks to gun ownership they seem strident and unreasonable. They damage their own cause. So, the extremists in the NRA are so afraid of any legislation that we have no consistent standards. Honestly something is wrong when someone can, in some states walk out of a treatment center for the mentally ill, and into a gun shop to purchase guns and ammo. There's something wrong when those who legally own guns are considered violent extremist while the majority of gun related crimes are committed by people who do not own guns legally? Please, don't fall for for the politicians who profit by creating fear and dividing us on both sides of this issue. Think for a moment about reasonable compromise. I know the slippery slope arguments that the NRA pushes, "if you let the government limit right A then next thing you know it will be right B and they will take away all our guns" and honestly there may be something to those arguments. Still, I urge gun owners who are members of the NRA to think again about who is speaking for you. Oh, and please do follow the money. It's pretty funny to see those folks get rich playing on your fears |

For the most part i agree with you, but it is a RIGHT not a PRIVILAGE. Meaning, unless you are a really big threat to people, the government has no place to remove that right. Just like freedom of speech. And the right to a trial by jury. All falls under the same catagory.
