PETA, another group of extremist.

It is good to be on top of the food chain! I say this somewhat lightly but with respect too.

PETA does have some excellent points to make about inhumane slaughter house conditions. The meat industry is something we should all be concern about as it directly impacts public health.

There's an excellent book, Animals in Translation and it is like no other animal book because of it's author Temple Grandin. As an animal scientist who works with and for the meat industry she has made significant changes in the industry that have been beneficial to the business, the animals and the public.

Nature is not humane but we are thinking and empathetic beings as are I suspect many animals. We are animals too but we are not coyotes or crocs. Our thoughts go beyond mere survival.I think we owe the animals we consume a respectful and humane death especially when we live and flourish fed on their flesh.

Hunters in my experience are as a group are people who are in many ways the most humane and respectful of all meat eaters. I have never met a hunter personally who wants to wound or damage an animal. They want a clean quick kill shot. They harvest animals who live freely and most eat what they kill. They understand the relationship of a prey animal and the hunter in a way that a person who buys their meat in a nice clean super market never will.

Have you ever slaughtered an animal yourself? If not you should. I firmly beleive anyone who eats meat should have that experience at least once. If you are concerned about the practices of large meat industry processing find a local butcher who works with and buys from local farmers. You are supporting local business and in most cases the animals are handled more humanely than on large meat lots.

Oh, one last point. There is growing scientific evidence that vegetables react to being pulled from the ground or cut up. Perhaps vegetables feel pain too. Will there be a new group People for the Ethical Treatment of Vegetables? If so what the hell are they going to eat?

Umm, I used to work for a meat packing plant, been to the slaughterhouse. Not pleasant. But, I'd have to disagree with you on the "humanity" of animals. Some, maybe. But for the most part, an animal's primary instinct is survival. If they are hungry or threatened or frightened, it's in their very nature to be vicious. I'm not saying humans are better, after all, we're all animals, but people who give animals "human" qualities are generally the ones who end up getting hurt or killed by them.

PETA ad compares bus beheading to animal abuse

TORONTO (AP) — The animal rights group PETA has tried unsuccessfully to run a newspaper ad comparing the beheading and cannibalizing of a passenger on a Greyhound bus in Canada last week to the treatment of animals by the meat industry.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said on its Web site it wanted to run the ad in Manitoba's Portage la Prairie Daily Graphic, which is distributed in the city near where a man stabbed a fellow passenger multiple times, then beheaded him and ate pieces of the body.

However, city editor Tara Seel said Thursday the newspaper had no intention of running the ad, which uses imagery of a victim's throat being cut, in reference to the slaughter of animals on factory farms.

"His struggles and cries are ignored ... the man with the knife shows no emotion ... the victim is slaughtered and his head cut off ... his flesh is eaten," reads the ad posted on the PETA site.

"If this ad leaves a bad taste in your mouth, please give a thought to what sensitive animals think and feel when they come to the end of their frightening journey and see, hear and smell the slaughterhouse," it says.

Lindsay Rajt of PETA said the ad was intended to be shocking and is meant to spur people to think about the terror experienced by animals who are raised and killed for food.

"Like human victims, animals in slaughterhouses experience terror when they are attacked by a knife-wielding assailant," the statement said. "We are challenging everyone who is rightly horrified by this crime to look into their hearts and consider leaving violence off their dinner plates."

Vince Weiguang Li, who immigrated to Canada from China in 2004, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 22-year-old carnival worker Tim McLean. He has yet to enter a plea.

Thirty-seven passengers were aboard the Greyhound from Edmonton, Alberta, to Winnipeg, Manitoba, as it traveled at night along a desolate stretch of the TransCanada Highway about 12 miles from Portage La Prairie, Manitoba last Wednesday. Witnesses said Li attacked McLean unprovoked, stabbing him dozens of times.

As horrified passengers fled the bus, Li severed McLean's head, displaying it to some of the passengers outside the bus, witnesses said.

A police officer at the scene reported seeing the attacker hacking off pieces of the victim's body and eating them, according to a police report.

Li was been ordered by a judge earlier this week to undergo a psychiatric evaluation before he faces trial.

PETA's ad comes a day after Greyhound scrapped one of its ad campaigns that extolled the relaxing upside of bus travel.

The ad's tag line was "There's a reason you've never heard of 'bus rage.'"

PETA is the biggest hypocrites ever. They kill many adoptable animals, yet ***** and moan about animals in the slaughter house.

And this new ad is so tasteless that they should be condemned for it.

We need to rid this world of useless people that wont do a damn thing for them selves, if you live in a desert and can't grow food then move, people on death row kill them instead of keeping them alive for 30 yrs so us tax payers have foot them bill.

Animals have as much right if not more then us because they don't destory the world they take what the need and thats all. We have some many empty buildings and run down place because no thinks they have to take care of it.

At least Peta makes the news and trys to do something right. Alot of poeple B##tch about things and dont. do any thing I rescue dogs that A##hole drop off and leave them.
