At last night’s Saddleback Church “Faith Forum,” Republican candidate John McCain said the nation’s greatest moral shortcoming is its failure to ”devote ourselves to causes greater than our self-interests.”

Thoughts?

that could be possibly correct,..but not everyone,..there are alot of people out there that have dedicated their lives to helping others,...and unfortunately are being whiped out

we have become so isolated in pursuing our own interests we`ve cut ourselves off from our neighbors,..

McCain will say anything to get elected. I thought that entire forum was inappropriate.

I watched Senator McCain last night and I was extremely JUBILANT over his responses!

IF one knows the Bible and scripture, Senator McCain was right on target with what God says about doing for others; others are to be more important than yourself, when Jesus said that when you feed, clothe others in need, you are doing it unto Him....serving Him.... and basically, American's are extremely wrapped up in their own materialistic and emotional needs.....

AND, Senator McCain is so very right.....we need to reach out to others in every way....

I John 3:16-18: "16 We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. "

Matthew 7:12 "12 In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

AND:
Philippians 2:4
"4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others."

AND:
Romans 15:1
"1 Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves."

Senator McCain's responses were truth in fact of his Christian faith. He did not have to literally quote scripture VERBALLY and as I have done above, his WORDS were literal proof that he knows the Lord and the Lord's word contained in the Bible are contained IN HIS HEART. "A picture is worth a thousand words." Senator McCain's responses last night is his "Picture"....are worthy of much much more than just a thousand words.

Although he is more 'humble' and quiet about his faith than others, his testimony last night shouted to the rooftops of his deep faith in Jesus Christ.............PTL!

I agree with McCain. No one is willing to look at how to help the nation as a whole, just their own little corner of it.SAD.

Hahaha Great political double talk there. He said nothing while saying something to "his people"

What the hell does that mean?

Moral shortcomings?

McCain has o few of his own...but we all know he is sorry now. *cough*

"Causes greater than our self-interests.” Humm is the cause in question getting himself elected? Because he has surely devoted himself to that. Hells bells the man even violated the law with his name on it in his own self interest.

Pandering, flip-flopping, immoral, law breaking McCain is going to claim he wants to heal and help the nation grow? McCain who pledged to run a campaign focused on the issues and who puts out an ad with Paris Hilton is acting on the issues? McCain, himself a vet and a prisoner of war with an embarrassing voting record on supporting those who are maimed and killed in this war?

Who's interest is he acting in? His own.

I am saddened to see Sen. McCain act as he has. At one time I think he would have made a great President. The Republicans broke him in favor of Bush and now that he is properly broken in he has made the concessions necessary to be their candidate.

So, vote against your own self interest, buy the hype and keep hating everyone who doesn't think like you do...even if you bothered to think at all...stay divided and watch this country get ridden into the ground.

Grr...I am babbling...this whole situation makes me so mad I could scream.
