Ok. I will only say this once for I have little tolerance for lack of education in today's world were information is only a click away. To address or refer to individuals that engage in same-sex relationships, please use the terms: lesbian, gay, gay male, transgendered, bisexual, homosexual, or same-sex. If you have any problems with this post, please address them with me first. Thanks! Tanya If you have little tolerance for un-educated people...maybe you can direct others into writing the government and making them aware of the LACK of education in the school systems and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! Tolerance for the un-educated starts with YOU and placing blame where it belongs. 1. That is why this thread. 2. I am an advocate and actisist for gay rights/human rights. 3. I am co-president of a GBLT student organization which I wrote the consituition for to allow the organization to be recognized by the university. 4. I work everyday as a person and within my future profession on gay rights and education including research to push for legistlation and educational change. |

Educating starts in the HOME, by the parent. |

So Tanya would you agree that calling someone who is transgendered "it" is a derogatory term? Just curious, I was reemed out because I told someone that they were dehumanizing someone by calling them "it"... The proper term is to refer to them as the gender that they live by (regardless if they are post-op) so if they live as a women you refer to them as a women, she, her etc..... and vice versa for a man. Thank you, I was told that I was the only person on the planet that had an issue with that, or that made a big deal about it.. and No1.... I've been called "the straight girl" in certain circles, because I was the only straight one there... |

Tanya, you left out the disabled community and the words used to describe people with various disabilities. I've seen horrific terms used here on this site and no one other than myself ever takes issue with them. It's as WRONG as every other derogatory term used when referring to others.
I don't understand why, but most everyone thinks it okay to berate the disabled (mentally and physically challenged). It's pervasive here and in society in gereral. |

Tolerance for the un-educated starts with YOU and placing blame where it belongs. Everyone has access to a public school education, you do with it what you see fit, and if you are happy in your own ignorance, then so be it, but I think what Tanya is trying to express here is that it is the person's issue not society's issue that they are ignorant. Actually, society is the reason this IS a issue! And if you read what was asked at first it says....Intolerance for uneducated people.....Education has everthing to do with the schooling of prejudice.....Besides who cares what someones sexual preference is?????? It really isn't anyones business but that persons in the long run. EDUCATION is what stops prejudice and pursecussions of the different! Some of my best friends are gay men. I have NO problem with who they are! What I think is a problem is the educational system.....And I agree, PARENTS! |

And as a parent, I start with myself. By being involved with my child's education. Looking at and discussing homework, finding other sources for more information, discussing other points of view. By demonstrating a continued interest in my own education. Always learning something new.
I count on the school system to provide the basics, thats about all. |

I don't like women being referred to as broads or bit*ches and the like, yet such terminologies prevail in present day. There are so many inequities and slanders and nasty terms for pretty much anyone. It's up to individuals to monitor themselves and others to ostracize. It's difficult in this arena as is with many others.

Education and ignorance are two different things, I know highly educated people who are ignorant, and I know people with little to no education who are pretty damned wise... The two don't go hand in hand in the slightest. |

lily, dollface, I wanna say thank you for asking your question!
I am glad that I post this, because sometimes just asking a simple question in a neutral environment can promote education and learning. If anyone else has any questions, but don't want to post them, please feel free to email me! |

IGNORANCE Is the LACK of Education, Wether it be in schools or home life! The root word of IGNORANCE is IGNORE... That's not lack of education, that's the ignoring of the facts...Ignorance although has one meaning, it has many connotations depending on your view of the subject matter. Anyone who uses derogatoy words to descibe something shows their ignorance, no matter what their education level is. My view is people only hate that which they either don't understand or are in fear of, and that is their issue, not society's issue. Turn on a computer or read a book if you don't understand something. I hate ignorance, because I don't understand it, but there aren't many books that teach ignorance... so I'm kinda screwed. |
