Are manors lost in today's world?

I work in a coffee shop. And it is surprising me how man people do not say a simple please or even a thank you when ordering. I had a customer ask if they could borrow my lighter, which I allowed. And not once was there ever a please or even a thank you.

Parents don't teach them to their kids anymore.
Manners are taught when your young.

ok, I wasn't gonna say anything here, but I gotta

My son is 5, and he has been taught from the time he could speak to say, please, thank you, may I, excuse me, etc.

I think it depends on the parent.

I always say please and thank you. My son is a waiter and I see first hand how rude people are.

You are doing them a service,

I agree that many do not teach manners anymore,
or respect for that matter.

forgotton their manners too.
Sad really sad.

Older generation to some is mid to others.
I started seeing a lack of manners taught, back in the late 70's & beyond.

Yep - manners ard taught when kids are young. Some parents to teach their kids manners, I certainly do, but it becomes increasingly difficult when she's around other kids who haven't been taught manners - just makes me work harder.
I make sure I always smile and say hi, please and thank you. Even if the person behind the counter doesn't say a word.

Sorry you're dealing with inconsiderate a**holes.flowerforyou flowerforyou

I don't think I'd make a good waitress or service person. You never know who/what you will run into, what mood they are in. I can just imagine me mouthing off or making an "accident". I wish I were more like the "water on a duck" type, and I do great customer service, but crapheads are crapheads.

You are so right oldsage! Being in the education field and working at the elementary level...it so amazes me the lack of manners our young people have in today's world. I am constantly re enforcing it whenever I am able.

This past school year I was blown away when I was helping out in the preschool classroom...(ages 3-5)...this 3 yr. old little guy didn't like what was being asked of him...he repeatedly replied..."F*** you teacher!"

Young children are like sponges...they only learn what the are exposed to. Some kids parents!!!grumble brokenheart frown rant
