Parents don't teach them to their kids anymore.
Manners are taught when your young.

ok, I wasn't gonna say anything here, but I gotta

My son is 5, and he has been taught from the time he could speak to say, please, thank you, may I, excuse me, etc.

I think it depends on the parent.
I agree. It has come to the point were I just ignore my child until he says the "magic words" he eventually gets it and it is better then me sounding like a scratched CD.

It gets me how rude people can be when out in
public. Espeicailly when shopping. noway

I used to bartend, cook, and waitress.
I started noticing more rudeness as time went on.
Though I can not say everyone is rude,
because some still believe in manners.
Thank goodness.

Older generation to some is mid to others.
I started seeing a lack of manners taught, back in the late 70's & beyond.

I've seen lack of manners from older people as well. So, it isn't just starting with one age group.

I think it's because people are becoming increasingly more selfish. I don't really see it as an age thing. I've had college-age kids hold the door open for me, and middle-aged adults who let it slam in my face.

I agree that many do not teach manners anymore,
or respect for that matter.
There are a lot of adults out there who have
forgotton their manners too.
Sad really sad.

Are manors lost in today's world?

I work in a coffee shop. And it is surprising me how man people do not say a simple please or even a thank you when ordering. I had a customer ask if they could borrow my lighter, which I allowed. And not once was there ever a please or even a thank you.

do you mean 'Manners' ..

Manors are large castle-like houses
SEE I KNEW there was a reason why I did not want to post this until AFTER my first coffee!noway noway noway

laugh It's OK, manors are being lost in today's world too! laugh

Yea, customers can be morons. But there's always the ones, and that seems to be most of them, that make the day brighter and worth it all. Hang in there!

You are so right oldsage! Being in the education field and working at the elementary level...it so amazes me the lack of manners our young people have in today's world. I am constantly re enforcing it whenever I am able.

This past school year I was blown away when I was helping out in the preschool classroom...(ages 3-5)...this 3 yr. old little guy didn't like what was being asked of him...he repeatedly replied..."F*** you teacher!"

Young children are like sponges...they only learn what the are exposed to. Some kids parents!!!grumble brokenheart frown rant

That is sooooooo sad to hear little ones talking
like that. I heard a little one in my daughters
neighboorhood say F*** you, and they could'nt of been more than four years old. They were standing in the road and refused to get out of the way of
cars. noway

That is our younger generation that will someday
be the adults in this world... scared
Makes it real HARD on people who try to instill
manners and respect in their children.

Yep - manners ard taught when kids are young. Some parents to teach their kids manners, I certainly do, but it becomes increasingly difficult when she's around other kids who haven't been taught manners - just makes me work harder.
I make sure I always smile and say hi, please and thank you. Even if the person behind the counter doesn't say a word.

Sorry you're dealing with inconsiderate a**holes.flowerforyou flowerforyou

Thank you. I must admit that even in the builing I live at I can see how rude the kids can be. Never towards me. But I have seen it towards others. So yes young and old they manners can still be forgotten.

and i REALLY do NOT spit in peoples coffee.laugh

That is sad. I do not know what I would do if I EVER heard my son talk like that. But I know he will learn pretty damn fast that it will get him NO where.

The problem is not just limited to people's lack of manners. There is a general sense of entitlement which plagues certain members of society because they view anyone in a service oriented industry as being beneath them. It is unfortunate because people who elevate themselves (in their own minds) by knocking others down is disrespectful, unnecessary and such an overall waste of energy.

You know your value, so whether or not others choose to treat you respectfully is their problem. I see people like that through eyes of compassion because there is something very wrong with them. What a way to live. I have been exposed to people like that all throughout my life and I refuse to allow them to inject me with their venom. Instead, I set them straight, then give them a most beautiful smile and keep 'em wondering.

Best wishes ~

Jen

Jen this is so true, & being treated that way breeds resentment & response in kind, thus a downward spiral.

If you look back in time, manners were very much present. all the guys would open doors for the girls etc etc. Today it is somewhat extinct. I always have manners cos it is a sign of respect to others. I like to treat others the way I like to be treated!!

But yes, manners are somewhat forgotten nowadays!!

It could come down to customer servce(NOT POINTING YOU OUT). There is no customer service anymore. I am going into a store to spend my money. Do I have to thank you no. Maybe I am tired of workers not thanking me, giving me the service I deserve..Go into anystore and you workers standing around talking not caring about the customers. When we were young you were taught the customers always right even when hes wrong. He is spending his money!!By the way I always say thanks even when its not deserved...Thanks for the post..That wasnt meant as shot against you...

OK, I understand that you are spending YOUR money. But at the same time we are providing the service for you. Just because one person is rude to a customer does not mean everybody else is. If it was not for people like us working in the customer service field, then when you want the service who will be there to serve you?

And you are welcome for the post.
