They are absolutely incredible
I've seen them from here in Ohio and from Canada, makes you just amazed at the sight. A friend works in Greenland and Iceland often, he was there a couple years so, the most incredible Northern Lights show being displayed, they pulled off the road and was just mesmerized. It took them a while to even realize what it was that was happening. They finally made their way on to this little town bar for supper and stayed in the parking lot to continue watching. They went in to tell everyone "Get out here and SEE this!!"...of course all the locals said "yeah right, I ain't leaving my beer"... can you imagine being able to see that sight so often it becomes mundane????? Wow. |

I have seen them here where I live ( Thumb area of Michigan ) twice. Both times hapened when I was a kid. Very cool to see.
I wouldn't say you should make a special trip just to see them, but if you are already in a place where they occur regularly, and you happen to see them, you'll be glad you did. :-) |

I have heard the nothern lights are worth seeing just wondering if anyone has seen them and if so what are they like? Someday i would like to see them Wow, I can't believe you have never seen the Aurora Borealis (northern lights). In our neck of the woods (north east Wisconsin), they have been known to be very distinct a couple times a year. Even creating sounds, sorta like a whooshing, static'y, popping noise. And they dance, too, almost like those lights on some stereo's where the different strobes dance up and down in time to the music. If we are lucky, the real treat is to see them in colour. |

I've seen it here in WI as well. It's nothing like seeing them in Alaska though. I'd fly to Alaska just for that...

They're awesome! No special trip is needed. Just google them and see when they're appearing close to you.
