I have the same problem. Most people who know me understand that I have no problem saying what I mean. I am very blunt and outspoken. So it irritates me to no end when I say something and people decide that it means something else. No matter how much I tell them that wasn't what I meant, they want to ascribe their own meaning to it. It's maddening. So now they are all worked up and angry at you for something you never said, because in their tiny pea brains, they believe that you must have meant whatever it is they are mad about. And they are so into being pissed off, they dont' believe you when you tell them what you actually meant. I would think I would know what I mean better than anyone, but no, they insist they know what I meant, even when it wasn't what I said.

It's enough to make a person just give up.

I accept opinions and view, facts I look up just to make sure and hell I like to learn. But just because I accept a persons opinions and views does not mean I agree with them (as is my right) but the misinterpretation is what goes way beyond on these sites. Granted you cannot see a persons face, but if people took time to read what was posted not skim and only pick up what is convenient for them, the conversations/debates would never turn personal.

See, I truly dont take things personally even in real life. I figure the only way someone can get under my skin is if I let them. So I chose not to and it works for me.

Things we write are not always received by others in the way they are intended.

It is not always due to poor social skills or expressive ability. More likely, it is because of the lack of nonverbal cues available in this medium, or the receiver's own processing deficits or biases. Not everyone is going to like us or what we have to say all of the time.

Do the best you can, let go of the rest.

It's not about being liked..it's about being slammed by an entire thread because they chose to ascribe meaning to something; meaning that was never your original intent. Then they won't let you tell them they are interpreting it wrong. It's like they think they know what is going on inside your head better than you do. It's just annoying.

The debates in politics and religions nearly always turn personal because people care about ceratain issues in different ways . Add to that some people are like parrorts just repeat what others say .
Example : some politicians or some preachers say something completely out of logic and some folks here keep on repeating it as a real science .

That was one of the preconditions I demanded before accepting the position!
