Our sire watches us hunt
We circle around, wind in face
Our packmates on the other side
The prey quivers, poised to flee
They have scented my brothers
The small one is ours, our test
The female shall fall to adults
Our brothers get closer, prey breaks
Running to us, running to death
We rush to strike, leap and bite
Take it down, bite the throat
Warm blood flows, we have killed
White death, hunger, kept at bay
Female falters, searches for young
Adults strike and take her down
Howls rise, the pack shall eat
Tear at flesh, taste the blood
Growl as one gets too close
Bared teeth flash, ears laid back
Return to feed, I must survive
An adult approaches our kill
Weak, without status, hungry
Turning I face, my hackles rise
Fangs bared I challenge him
Another test, I must be strong
He moves to feed, I growl
Leap twist of head, jaws snap
I have his lip, he tries to turn
Tries to flee, I hang on
He drops, rolls, submits
Victory is mine, return to feed
I have beaten white death
Met the challenge of hunger
Begun my climb, my journey
I shall learn many things
Meet many brothers, have many names
Okwaho, Otahyo:ni, Ho'nehe, Ma'iitsoh
To my people I shall ever be Gray Wolf

Awesome Karma damn ya two together can make sweet harmony
when it comes to the words they blend so well the flow
is just Awesome.

-Gray Wolf Totem-

The days have grown shorter and colder
I spend most of my days with Shaman
And my nights in the hogan with my mother and father
Curled up in my sleeping furs with the sacred bundle
Listening to it sing me to sleep
And filling my dreams
Leaning against the wall is the spear from first man
It too speaks to me
Telling me stories of past battles
And future wars
Still to young to fully understand what is happening to me
I think this is normal and all the children have this
Every morning as I walk to Shaman's hogan
I hear in the distance a wolfs cry
It strikes my heart
Not with fear but comfort
I walk slowly on my little legs
Chattering endlessly to the morning sun
Not caring who looks at me strangely
I am filled with child wonder
In everything I see
When I come to Shaman's hogan
I slip through the door quickly
Eager to be asked
"Girl what did you dream
What did the bundle sing to you
Did the spear speak to you"
Knowing Shaman will listen to my every word
I remember them all with crystal clear clarity
Every word spoken and sung
Every dream that has come
So I tell my stories thinking I am simply entertaining
I tell him of the wolf cries I hear in my walk to his hogan
How it strikes my heart not in fear but comfort
Shaman tells me that is a sign
That Wolf must be my totem
And spirit guide
I smile feeling great comfort from his words
I watch him carving in stone
And ask what is
"Girl since you came here
I too have dreamed
I have seen this wolf
Gray Wolf I call him
So I carve him
For you
You must wear it around your neck
It will keep you safe"
He places it on a braided thong
And ties it securely around my neck
I pat it feeling warmth spread throughout my soul
And I whisper so softly that only Gray Wolf can hear
"I am not afraid when you are near
I know no fear"
