Ok, we are discussing HP. I am not talking wiccan society. According to the HP books, which I read, you are born a wizard or witch. Try and keep focused people.

But that's the whole point of the thread isn't it? That Christians want the books banned because they are teaching witchcraft.

If the assumption is that the books claim you have to be born a witch, then doesn't that make the whole issue redundant?

In fact, that would be a good legal issue for the proponent of the books to bring up. If the books actually say that you can only be born a witch or a wizard then clearly they can't be suggesting that anyone can become a witch.

This is what I meant about it being a fantasy and not a religion. Even the Wiccan Society would say that it's just fantasy then. At least as far I've been told because every Wiccan I've talked to thus far told me that anyone can become a witch and practice witchcraft. I'm not 100% certain but think the religion was all about a goddess who came to earth to teach human woman how to use witchcraft.

Those humans would then be Wiccans. Or Wiccan Witches.

However, there could still be the idea of supernatural witches.

In other words, look at it from the Christian point of view. God has angels which are supernatural beings. Then he created humans which are mortal. Well, the humans are mortals and the angels are somthing entirely different.

Same thing could be said of human witches (Wiccans), and spiritual witches (kind of like angles).

I guess Harry Potter and company are supposed to be the supernatural kind of witches.

That would be like someone writing a fairtale about angels and then everyone complaining that their kinds want to become angels. laugh

I guess this all comes down to the difference between human witches and supernatural or divine witches.

Human witches believe they can call up supernatural powers by using incantations and so forth, in a similar way that Christians believe they can call up on a supernatual power via prayer.

It's just two differnt methods to do the same thing.

Jeanniebean does it using the Law of Attraction.

I do it by writing songs and singing them. laugh

I like the magic carpet idea too. I'm a wee bit too old for the broom stick trick I think. laugh

Especially when you get to be over 40, the carpet is a much easier form of transport ...

But for a mid life crisis delay using the broom for rides in the country side with all the other 40 plussers is always a great boost!

I have seen Equus, but not with him in. Its a very heavy going play and although the nudity is tastefully done, the human form is not so pleasing on the eye when very bright lights are shone on it!!
