In the United States calls for the books to be banned from schools have led occasionally to widely publicised legal challenges, usually on the grounds that witchcraft is a government-recognised religion and that to allow the books to be held in public schools violates the separation of church and state.

This is utterly absurd. And the very SIMPLE REASON is because the Harry Potter Series is being sold and presented as FANTASY!!!

If the Christians want to write books about angels and deities being nailed to crosses as FANTASY, I'm sure no one would object. Well actually there probably are non-Christian idiots who would object just because people do tend to be idiots. But the point being that if Christianity wants to present their religion as FANTASY I don't see why anyone would care. But I seriously doubt that the Christians would want to present their religion as FANTASY.

As long as Harry Potter is being presented as FANTASY what's to complain about?

Much of the criticism is from Christian groups, especially those of a fundamentalist tendency, who believe the series' alleged pagan imagery is dangerous to their children.

It's being presented as FANTASY! So all they are saying is that their children aren't intelligent enough to know what is being presented as religion, and what's being presented as fantasy. The criticisms are totally unwarranted, and unrealistic. All they have to do is point out to their children that it's a fantasy series.

So, if you have read the series, do you think it promotes Pagan religions

I haven't read the books but I would like to actually. I have seen them movies and I don't see how anyone could claim that the movies are presenting witchcraft or wizardry as anything other than fantasy. I didn't see anywhere in the movie that it ever suggested that it was attempting to convey a religion or religious beliefs. I can't comment on the actual books since I haven't read them, but I'm willing to bet that they too present the story as fantasy.

If you are Pagan, do you think that HP series does the belief system credit.

I'm not a Pagan so I can't say. But I would imagine that most serious people would have to say no. The Harry Potter series is a fantasy for entertainment.

... or is it just a yomping good yarn?

Yeah, that sounds good. glasses

No Jeannie..christians DON'T cast spells on anyone...and you VERY WELL know this , Jeannie.

when Christians give people God's blessings or when a christian tells someone that they will pray for them it's the same thing as casting a spell or even a curse

how would a christian feel if someone tells them that may Satan bless you and answer your prays and send his legions of demons to watch over you ..would that sound to a christian like someone casting a spell or a curse on them

I have a copy of "The Secret" myself and I love it!

JB - "The Secret" have you read it? Personally, if someone reads it and can't see through it, they seriously lack critical thinking skills. But that's another topic.

Abra is absolutely right. My son adored the X-men. In fact, one summer he took the screen out of his window and would sit on the garage roof. He told me a few years later, he really believed that humanity might evolve like the X-men had and that young people would be the first to show it.

He decided his special skill would surely be that he could fly.

Fortunately, in spite of what he wanted to believe, he never tried to fly off the roof.

The point is, X-men is fantasy, Harry Potter is fantasy, only the Bible is taught as truth. Apparently war, murder, genocide and slavery is an acceptible thing to teach children, if that child believes God to be on thier side. But then again my son believed he could fly!

I vote to ban the Bible and make every kid do a book report on Harry Potter.

I just have one question what is wrong with imagination?????? I mean come on CS LEWIS got away with the Chronicals of Narnia simply because he was a very outspoken christian who wrote books on that subject also... Tolkein is accepted!!!! So Why must Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling be treated differently???

"Imagination rules the world."

The church wants to do that. laugh laugh laugh

huh Seriously. That's it.

No I have not read it. huh

I saw the film and was not impressed at all. It has an agenda.

The book "The Law of Attraction" by E.Hicks and the book "The Science of Getting Rich" lay out the creative techniques in a perfectly orderly manner.

The secret agenda of the "The Secret" I believe, is to make these creative techniques look like fantasy rather than science; which will serve to turn people away from the idea that thoughts are powerful things and can create and mold our reality.

I don't recommend the book. I do recommend the other two books and the use of thoughts in creating your reality.

As a man thinketh.....

Religious debates over Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling stem largely from assertions that the Harry Potter novels contain occult or Satanic subtexts.

This opposition comes from branches of Abrahamic religions, with some members of Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Orthodox Christians, in addition to Shia and Sunni Muslim faiths, arguing against the series.

In the United States calls for the books to be banned from schools have led occasionally to widely publicised legal challenges, usually on the grounds that witchcraft is a government-recognised religion and that to allow the books to be held in public schools violates the separation of church and state.

Religious opposition has also surfaced in other nations. The Orthodox churches of Greece and Bulgaria have campaigned against the series, and members of the Vatican hierarchy have voiced opposition.
The books have been banned from private schools in the United Arab Emirates and criticised in the Iranian state-run press.

Much of the criticism is from Christian groups, especially those of a fundamentalist tendency, who believe the series' alleged pagan imagery is dangerous to their children.

So, if you have read the series, do you think it promotes Pagan religions

Thanks Belushi. I needed that.

"where do you get your religious beliefs from?"

"I get mine from books of fiction intended for children"

"oh yeah me too- mother goose is my spiritual guide"

"oh totally. and cinderella, mickey mouse, and nancy drew are the foundations of my beliefs."

That's all folks.
