How about hearing someone loved you but not replying? Talk about awkward moments. I can only imagine as it hasn't happened to me thankfully. |

I've never said I love without a reply, but I have been told I love you and haven't replied. Those aren't word I just thro around. I have to be 100% sure that I love someone before I tell them so. |

My wife was like that for many years, 23 to be exact, then she divorsed me...bummer!

Not in person. I've had a couple of people tell me over the internet, and I didn't know how to respond. And it's really hard for me to turn someone down. So there was that awkward silence for 5 minutes, but somehow the situation was resolved. Although that's not as bad as what happened to a friend of mine. He confessed his love to this girl through a Myspace message a few months back and hasn't heard anything from her since. |

To state your love is a expression of your feelings towards another person. If the words are not returned to you, does it negate the original statement? If you are saying "I love you" with the hope or expectation of hearing it back perhaps you are expressing your need for love more than you are actually saying "I love you"
