Do you really think that there are cliques on this site? Do you think that this just comes from personality? Do you think those that could be a clique on here, would really be friends in real life? What are your thoughts?
I know myself personally, I have never been a clique person. I have always had froms a from all of different groups when I was in high school. But, I usually hung out at the misfit table at lunch, because they were the most real people back then. I think on the site, I have made friends with individuals from a variety of interests and personalities. |

If there are cliques, I tend to ignore them. In school, I had my own posse of misfits, but I also had friends from pretty much every other group. And, my Mom was a teacher in the school system I attended and an ABSOLUTE nerd trekky for a brother in there, so I had prejudices against me. Yet, I prevailed. When we find something in common with each other, the boundaries get blurred.

Do you really think that there are cliques on this site? Do you think that this just comes from personality? Do you think those that could be a clique on here, would really be friends in real life? What are your thoughts? Not huge cliques. I see a couple of small, close-knit groups who have banded together in their own little circles and who have gone out of their way not to let other people in. It's the same thing that happens in real life sometimes. The difference is that, here in a public venue, it can be a little off-putting to newcomers who don't know who's who yet, and who try to interact with these groups and are summarily ignored. The whole clique thing used to be a lot worse here. I think one thing that happens, as a site grows and evolves, is that people tend to be more aware of how MANY others there are here to get to know. A "clique" mentality is inherently self-defeating unless you're happy with the comfort and ease of total stagnation. There used to be a sort of clique, a sort of entitlement attitude here, among the real old-timers who would cry every time new people arrived. "I don't like the site the way it is now, it's not MY JSH anymore." As if it was designed solely for their benefit. A website is like an organism, it grows and changes and shifts; some people just want it to be the same way forever, but, in the long run, that helps no one but the stick-in-the-muds who think the whole world revolves around them. |

Right this clique is ignoring me. I'm starting my own thread, and maybe I won't let anyone in at all. So there. |

I do know when people share common or similar opinions/view they tend to be more social amongst themselves but this does not make them a clique. I think those I speak to, I could be friends with in real life. |
