She tells women to love themselves they way they are, but keeps offering weight-loss tips. She urges viewers to give to others, but also to pamper themselves. Winfrey says women should embrace their maturity, but shows them how to look 10 years younger. She advises women on private moral dilemmas, but fiercely guards her own privacy.

One of the fastest growing segments of the population consists of people who call themselves "spiritual," but not "religious," noted Nelson. Winfrey clicks with media-driven, postmodern believers who stress the importance of personal experience and storytelling over the authority of religious institutions and doctrines. Meanwhile, many churches are trying to shed old names and labels, calling themselves "community churches" and adopting other post-denominational names.

Our culture is changing," he says, "as churches are in decline and the bulk of a new generation is growing up outside of religion." Instead, they're turning to the Church of Oprah.

"People who have no religion relate to her,"

Pruning

It is the branch that bears the fruit
That feels the knife,
To prune it for a larger growth
And fuller life,

Though every budding twig be lopped
And every grace
Of swaying tendril, springing leaf
Be lost a space.

Oh, thou whose life of joy seems reft,
Of beauty shorn,
Whose aspirations lie in dust,
All bruised and torn,

Rejoice, though each desire, each dream, each hope of thine,
Shall fall and fade; it is the hand of love divine

That holds the knife, that cuts and breaks
With tenderest touch,
That thou, whose life hast borne some fruit,
May now bear much.

I have long thought that Oprah Winfrey is one of the most dangerous women in America. She's intelligent, funny, charming, charismatic, dynamic, persuasive, and generous, but she is using those qualities to promote a worldview that is anti-Biblical to the core. Every time I see her on TV, I think of how the devil disguises himself as an angel of light. If it's true that she once believed in Christ, then I can only lament how she has fallen away from her first love, and how she is leading so many others astray. She needs our prayers that she will return to Jesus, and then turn her considerable talents back to serving Him instead of a false teacher like Tolle.

Faith

Hebrews 11:8-9, "By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going..."
This practice of Abraham must also become ours. If we come to doubt or begin to despair, if we feel no comfort, then we must call to mind Abraham's practice. He believed God's promise, even when the visible foundation of that promise was unknown and unsure. When the promises of God seem to be far from us and their accomplishment to be impossible, then we must cast our souls upon these very promises. When we feel we are in the very grip of hell, then, then especially, we must believe God's promises.

Faith: Faith is a persuasion and assent to truth upon the authority of another. The faith in divine things, is either:

HISTORICAL, where we assent to the truths of revelation, as a kind of certain and infallible record; this is where "faith without works is dead", James 2:17. Faith without works is the faith of devils, James 2:19. We must both believe and practice.

TEMPORARY, Where, with some degree of affection, we receive divine truths, as both certain and good; but soon after lose the whole impression, as they were never established in the heart: such is the faith of the gospel hearers, who are compared to stony ground, Matthew 11:24.
The faith of MIRACLES, Where, by means of a divine impression, one is persuaded that God will work such a particular miracle, by his means, or upon his person: this is a faith to remove mountains or faith to be healed, 1 Corinthians 13:2, Acts 14:9.

SAVING faith, is that grace put in the heart, by the Spirit of God, where we receive and rest upon Christ alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel. By this we believe ourselves utterly sinful, lost, and undone, without Jesus Christ. On the testimony of His gospel we believe that Christ is every way sufficient and suited to save us; and that, by the appointment of His Father, and his Own offer of Himself, we have a divine right to take and use Him for all of our salvation. So we trust and depend on His righteousness as the ground of salvation to us in particular. By saving faith we are united to His person, as our spiritual head and husband and are given His righteousness. By improvement of this faith we become active in his service, Gal. 2:20. By this faith, we are justified and saved, as it receives, Christ and His righteousness, Romans 5:1-5, Eph. 2:8. It purifies the heart by receiving and applying Jesus' blood, Acts 15:9. It works by love for the performance of every good word and work, Gal. 5:6. This is the faith of God's people because none but they are made sharers of it, Titus 1:1. They alone are of the faith and act according to the principals of it, Gal. 3:7.

"The Lord bless thee and keep thee, The Lord make his face shine upon thee, And be gracious unto thee"
(Numbers 6:24-25).

I seek in pray'ful words, dear friend,
My heart's true wish to send you;
That you may know that, far or near,
My loving thoughts attend you.

I cannot find a truer word,
Nor fonder, to address you;
Nor song, nor poem that I have heard
Is sweeter than— "God bless you!"

God bless you! So I've wished you all
Of brightness life possesses;
For can there any joy at all
Be yours unless God blesses?

God bless you! So I breathe a charm,
Lest grief's dark night oppress you;
For how can sorrow bring you harm,
If 'tis God's way to bless you?

And so, "through all thy days
May shadows touch you never";
But this olone—God bless you good—
Then you have joy forever."

Wow; I almost made a thread a couple of months ago. I was gonna call it "Oprah, dangerous"?

I love her. She is the most giving and concerned woman on the planet. Through her so much has been done.

This new thing she is doing with that guy is good, but can it change beliefs? I have read and listened to what is going on in there. Much learning and being spiritual.

My fear was also that she has so much power, that she could lead masses of people astray.

But, wouldn't it be great if what she is doing changes the actions of those that would otherwise keep killing our planet?
She promotes love, understanding, and earth, and yes, even God.

She still scares me though. Too much power.

Hi britty.flowerforyou
Listen, I have a thread "update on Lynn"...I tell her everything everyone says. All the well wishes and prayers and the like. Can you visit and leave a message? I mean, if you want too.

I am going to try and keep it going and show her how good the people here are, and the kindness of strangers does make her feel good.

Ooops, sorry. I didn't mean to hijack this thread.flowerforyou

Is it really necessary to have a Bible for your faith to be strong or even to exist?

Is not the Bible and its various interpretations what has caused the divisions (sects) within the Christian faiths?

So at a time when, it seems, more people are getting away from that umbrella label called Christianity, someone is still out there calling peoples attention to a higher power. I would think you would all feel that is better than denying such a power completely.

But here we see that at least a few are attached at the hip to that book. If the HOLY SPIRIT is your guide, if you can all hear the words and follow them, what need is there for the Bible? Can you not communicate these things without a book?

Just Curious!

Also, imagine how long the Jewish faith existed in a nomadic and very secluded lifestyle, how true the faith remained and all by word of mouth. mmm interesting.

http://www.tcd.ie/Library/heritage/kells.php

The Book of Kells was written around the year 800 AD and is
one of the most beautifully illuminated manuscripts in the
world. It contains the four gospels, preceded by prefaces,
summaries, and canon tables or concordances of gospel
passages. It is written on vellum and contains a Latin
text of the Gospels in insular majuscule script accompanied
by magnificent and intricate whole pages of decoration with
smaller painted decorations appearing throughout the text.
The manuscript was given to Trinity College in the 17th
century and since 1953 has been bound in four volumes.
It has been on display in the Old Library since the 19th
century. Two volumes can normally be seen, one opened to
display a major decorated page, and one to show two pages of script.

Two things about Oprah....she was a Christian and she used to speak her mind.....regarding her faith...but then the all mighty buck came into the picture...and because of what she believed in was loosing her viewers she then started skipping on the fence so to speak...hence the no specific God. Now what hurts me the most about what she has done is two things....I have met her, I have talked to her...I did a 10k run with her in Los Angeles. When she got all wishy washy on her beliefs because it was bad for ratings. This was a slap in God's face. I stand behind my convictions 100%. I have seen what she has done over the last 15 years and what scares me the most about it is the following she has. Satan to me has his hands in this big time...And what better way...the people adore her, almost worship her.....so satan can get how many many many more people through her......

Be careful folks what you buy into......

Disclaimer: This is my opinion and nothing being shoved at anyone.....I speak from what I know. Get all the shows and watch...watch the slow progression to what she thinks today.....Please don't take my word for it...look for yourselves.
