My daughter has been an honor student all through high school. She was ready to take a trip to Spain with her Spanish club; and planning on attending college locally.

Suddenly she just stopped going to school; wound up suspended; and is no longer eligible for the trip. We lost $3,000.

She is also probably not going to graduate.

I got her to a counsellor but I am at wit's end. Why is she throwing her life away like this? I don't understand.

tough question. High school can be so difficult, there are so many things it could be.

Getting her to a counselor was a very good idea...there is probably something deeper than just not wanting to go to school or whatever.

But speaking from personal experience...being able to talk to a counselor openly and honestly takes a while to do...it's hard to open up to a complete stranger...so dont be frustrated if it takes a while to figure out exactly whats troubling her.

Ohhh, Hiker, I'm soo sorry. I can't imagine what you are going through.

My gut reaction is counseling and the chance of drugs or alcohol might be there.flowerforyou

I know, that is the frustrating part- she was supposed to graduate in three weeks.

this doesn't mean those people haven't started hanging out with new people and introduced your daughter to some bad apples... you might wanna start with who she's hanging out with.

I knew she drank at parties - she was always honest about it, didn't drive afterwards..always stayed there or called me...
I worry about drugs..she got into trouble at 14 too and it was drugs and a bad crowd..I thought we were done with that- 4 years of smooth sailing and now this...

well, that's what I meant - I had hoped we were rid of these people..she kind of went past them; and now has gone back to them. Yes - bad apples.

I'd be upset too... as any decent mother would be. Whatever you do, always let her know you still love her and she's not alone. I'm trying to prepare for all that myself, since my daughter's 14 and I started giving my mom hell around 15.

(((hickerchick)))

I am 23; I went through almost the same exact thing except I was out of out of high school and going through college and still living at home. I wish I knew what to tell you. But the more my parents put the leash on, the harder I rebelled. noway
