Marriage is a religious ceromony hijacked by the Government to hold you hostage LOL...People used to walk hand in hand out under the stars and say their vows of commitment in front of God and clergy. The commitment is to your lover, in front of God....the laws are man made. very true Updawg.. The woman that wins your heart is going to be one very blessed woman...

From a legal standpoint, being married means all of the money she spends on painting and remodeling your house, she will see again when you croak, otherwise it goes to your parents or siblings.

Really necessary? Whats wrong with just living together without signing any legal paperwork? You sound bitter but one of the advantages of getting married so that your kids dont end up becoming BASTARDS (for a lack of better words) and its sad that people dont believe in marriage..........but I used to be a divorcee who believed that but I have started to see the benefits of marriage outweigh the so called committed relationship..........

the bottom line is.. marriage should be between the two that are in love and their choice BUT as we age and go into retirement when you're not married and one spouse dies it leaves the other without social security to help them survive.. that is a scary thought for the elderly that aren't married but just living together..
