WASHINGTON - Surprise, surprise. Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, wants to put a halt to any more troop withdrawals for the foreseeable future.

The highly politicized Petraeus seemed to be dutifully following his White House marching orders when he testified before congressional committees earlier this week.

Under his scenario, there will be no drawdown of U.S. forces in that strife-ridden country until President Bush leaves office.

That’s fine with Bush, who obviously has no intention of ending this futile war on his watch. Apparently feeling no responsibility for starting the war, Bush is planning to pass the Iraqi debacle on to his successor.

You can forget accountability for the yet-to-be defined U.S. military mission which has taken more than 4,000 American lives, possibly a million Iraqi lives and destroyed a country.

Now a guy cheating on his wife while President does'nt seem so bad does it? Priorities.......

if we get out of there anytime soon all that has been accomplished will be for nothing.when you go in another country and take over you better be ready for the long term affects.

We (the troops) are a wild card for the elections...whoever wants to bring us home will win the elections...thats how it goes.

Dawlin Bush Calls this the "war on Terrorisim" which will never end cause it'll always be around...no matter how many insergents we kill...

Hopefully the next President does'nt harbor any dangerous plans before he/she/it gets into office. Our troops have to bear the burdens of the decisions the chief makes, whether thought right or wrong. What really irks me is the thought that half of the candidates considered as 'serious' in the past 20 years have been utter jokes as human beings. This great country deserves more.

people woundnt know what to do with a "good" president like Ol Honest Abe or the likes. If anyone wants us outta here its us the troops....and i thank those who stand behind us in all we do

I think a great President will inspire us all with words, while making sound decisions. I hope that we get another one of those some day.

Like the feeling the first time a soldier meets a General and hears them speak, that's how citizens should feel when the president speaks. I personally have'nt had that feeling since Reagan. Our #1 should be an icon, it makes us stronger

I would have to speculate that the more that are killed the more will be created. It is so obviouse now that the war is based on lies and public manipulation that the only solution to resotre americas credability would be to have a Nuremberg type trial for Bush and his criminal gang.

I dont think this country can financialy support ten more years of war, as it is we are bankrupt financialy and moraly

"terrorism" is the same thing as opposition to u.s. world domination so yes it is a never ending war..and that is what the elite want!

I think that is as close as you can get to the truth.

No we are not tryibn to conquer the world...we are just fallin back on our British roots....An empire the sun never sets on...

i don't think we're trying take over the world, just police it and impose our views. and of course make an assload of money for those on top
