His name is Michael Monsoor, he was a Navy Seal. They were on a rooftop in Ramadi, he was a heavy machinegunner. He was defending three snipers posted on the roof when a grenade suddenly flies and hits him in the chest and lands on the ground in front of him. With his big machinegun in hand he could have run and gotten out of there.
But, instead he did his job, defending his men and friends. Drops himself on the grenade taking the blast and saving the others on that rooftop. Ultimate sacrifice. Truly humbling what he did. |

You know, some would be truly surprised at this?
Having been around many outstanding military types, branch or particular job being secondary - I would say especially in the combat roles, this would probably be the norm, not the exception. Too bad it won't make front pages anywhere but his hometown. Good job, Navy Seal! |
