The parents are the first to be blamed...especially those making excuses. The kids are doing it for attention and fame, just another form of terrorism...with pack mentallity...all of them should be tried as adults and the parents should serve community service...with abused childrens shelters.

We live in a sick world...

I pray the girl fully recovers...I dont know how bad her hearing is but sounds pretty bad.

read she has lost some hearing in her left ear and there was damage to her left eye as well... these are permanent injuries the punishment should fit the crime jmo flowerforyou

I would just like to say that bullying has been around for ages and I know no parent who would condone it.This day and age of cell phones with cameras has spawned bullying on film.Bullying is even rampant at the elementary level and the schools do little to check it.I feel for this girl and feel all involved should get the max in an adult prison.

this kind of things happen when discipline is not practice.

Well - first I agree with one of the other posters - the adult "lookouts" should get a very heavy sentence. They should know better.

The 'participants' should get a punishment worthy of the crime. Say, jail lockdown until they get 9 months straight positive reviews (one bad review one day, start the clock again) working in something like a battered woman's shelter. Or hospice. Use your imagination, but you get the idea.

And blaming schools is not the answer. They are not a daycare nor a nanny service. As Lonely pointed out - if the parents are not providing proper discipline and guidance, why should we expect schools to do so, yet forbid and sue them, should they employ corporal punishment. Face it,there are quite a few kids who need a crack on the ass that are NOT getting it.

And will be fair, in looking around my neighborhood. They are good kids. Sure - bit rambunctious at times, and the skateboard thing is annoying as hell - but they decent kids. Last summer I welded some pipes and such for them to skateboard on, and the group decided to wash my vehicles and cut the grass as a 'Thank you' Yeah, the skateboard thing is still annoying, but what the hell.

I like the idea of having them work at a battered woman's shelter. Sitting in a cell (while I'm NOT feeling bad for them if that is their fate) just seems unproductive. Seeing on a daily basis what happens when people get beaten on might have a more realistic impact. If it wouldn't be a violation of medical confidentiality laws (and this would force the parents to participate) I'd have a judge sentence them to six months of having to report to the ER every time a man or woman is brought in, a victim of abuse or assault. 2:00 AM? Sorry, mom and daughter, get up, drive in, work with the social worker who is helping the patient (or the doc, nurse, you get the idea.)

That type of punishment is unusual but it is far from cruel. I think that we should look for ways to make punishment (especially with minors) have more of an affect than just sitting in jail. Oh, and after the six months of helping out an agency--how about six more in that cell?

Good thoughts here and I am really glad that I participate in a group with people who disagree on much but all agree that this type of thing is unacceptable.

Kids are just that kids, as parents I should hope we do our best for our kids. Kids do and are capable of making decisions right and wrong ones.

But this was all premeditated, planned out to the point of including look outs. This does not sound like rational kid thinking, whether it was one of their ideas or they all combined their efforts for this attack, worries me. What to expect from them as adults???

Their lack of remorse annoys and grates my nerves to no end. I'm liking Drew's idea, make them get up for each and every reported domestic abuse brought into the emergency room. Let them experience the damage and the pain caused by violence. Disrupt their daily lives as they have caused permanent damage to their victim. jmo {getting off soap box now} grumble

Excellent. That will stay with them for a long time. It won't be sealed and if any of them had plans on a job in something other than raking leaves, it might become a bit tougher now. Trying them as adults seems so obvious here. Plan, stage, and execute a beating and you've passed in to the adult world.

Hopefully this will serve as something that looks like a reason to think twice about other engaging in similar behavior but I fear that such will not be the case.

this is happening to often now..its okay saying there kids but they obviously knew what they were doing as it was planned..parental control gone out of the window here..its getting to a point where the kids are ruling over the parents..and saying screw you all we can do whatever we please because you cant touch us ..no respect and no remorse over anything..we had a case where a guy went out to ask some kids to stop scratching his wifes car..thiy kicked him to death..the do gooders are out trying to get them off..because of there age etc ...while the poor wife and her children have to live without a husband and daddy and the horror of watching him die

WHAT GETS ME ABOUT ALL OF THIS, IS THAT THE PARENTS OF THE KIDS WHO DID THIS, ARE MORE OUTRAGED ABOUT THE COMMUNITY'S REACTION TO ALL OF THIS, INSTEAD OF BEING OUTRAGED ABOUT WHAT THEIR KIDS DID. PERSONALLY, I HOPE THEY LOCK THEM UP FOR A LONG TIME, THE KIDS, AND THE PARENTS. THESE PARENTS NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE TOO, FOR THE ACTIONS OF THEIR CHILDREN.

Not trying to defend the parents. Yes parents have a lot to do with their kids upbringing. To say its the soley the parents fault is almost unfair. Have you ever watched the movie Jack *@s? If not; how many people do you know that have watched it. Or how many times have youve heard a conversation about it. This poop is on everyday tv. Tv has influence generations of kids and households. Just a thought. When did it become ok to watch someone hurt themselves? My kids never watch this stuff, but I cant control peer presure or what other kids watch.

I WAS NOT SAYING THAT IT WAS SOLELY THE PARENTS FAULT, JUST THAT THEY NEED TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIER KIDS ACTIONS TOO. IF THEY WERE KEEPING BETTER TABS ON THEIR CHILDREN, THIS MAY NOT HAVE HAPPENED.

Yeah true, but how many times did you sneek out and never got caught. I was a pretty sneeky kid. Thats the ONLY reason my kids dont get an inch. Maybe these parents were ignorant just like my mom. My mom is great but she was oblivious. Granted I never did anything to break laws. If I did, I wouldnt be able to blame her. She was strick! We just dont know the whole story.
