I think that the purpose of DATING, is not to find out what someone is like when they are single, it's to find out what they are when they are a member of an official couple.

To take the OP's example of a guy who gets hammered every weekend while alone...

if he CONTINUES to do so after he gets seriously involved with someone, then he has established that this isn't how he behaves only when he is alone, it is how he behaves all the time. And that's the point.

At that juncture, it's up to the person who tried him out to decide if who he is when he is a committed person is what they want as their mate or not.

It's not that it's "wrong," or "unfair" to try to change someone after "hooking them:" it's that it's idiotic.

my friends and I see them around the city all the time.... they wear nothing but the nicest high end clothing.. always have their hair and makeup done..... they go to the gym 5 times a week.... they're always on their cell phones... and if they don't think you are in their class... they won't even give you a second look..... they only date the guys... with the nicely tailored suit... fancy cars.... they only want to go out where they can be seen by everybody else....yup....omg.. I'm so high maintenance

what makes you think I don't date anybody in my city... I'll have you know I .. date lots of women from my city..... Edmonton has loads of single women... young and old.der..lol..

I think you can see someone and have a chat and think, 'wow, she's really nice' but love, I think it takes a little more, although that first glance can set you on the road to bliss.

It's best to be a lady or a gentleman. Every little thing that you do affects your relationships, even something as ostensibly banal as bowel movements and the digestive process. When you start disrespecting each other on a small scale, it's only a matter of time that you will do so at a much more serious level and start taking each other for granted. Let's keep something sacred in the relationship. This is how you start chipping away at the love, when you disregard each other on a small scale or let yourself go. It's only a matter of time that you start dressing like a slob and not taking care of yourself or your appearance. You are signaling to your mate that you are not interested in pleasing them. Or worse, you don't care if you displease or disgust them. Then, you wonder where the love went and why they are more attracted to someone else and are leaving you. Pay attention to everything you do.
