Not really.

You would be surprised how many people who struggle with illiteracy today even after completing school. It is not a measure of intelligence or lack there of, but a failure on the part of the education systems ability to be flexible in teaching methods to accomodate those who have difficulty or learn differently than the the methods used and thereby fall through the cracks.

If you learn easily you can breeze through, if you have obvious learning deficits you may be assigned assistance but if you fall somewhere in the middle ie: smart enough to deduce what is going on, you can squeeze through with out actually acquiring the skills. These individuals can read well enough to get through what they need to but accurate spelling may be a lifelong challenge.

It is not a measure of intelligence at all but lack of acquired skills. It also does not indicate laziness or refusal when there is a lack of resources to help them. As they reach adulthood they may be conditioned to think they cannot learn and develop other skills to cope.

Some of these individuals function very well in society and have excellent careers. I am always amazed when I encounter a professional person who consistantly misspells or misuses words but it happens more than you might think. With the lowered levels of achievements required to get the kids graduated and out of the schools these days, this will happen more and more with no fault of their own.

There are all kinds of struggles in this world.

I haven't had any here on Mingle2. I was wondering just in general. If the thread is inappropriate, please delete with my apologies.

There seems to be more and more of these GoFundMe or Kickstarter campaigns popping up.

I have contributed to a few of them, one for a dog that ate a rope and needed emergency surgery, one for a local young filmmaker who needed funds for the completion of his film that I knew he has worked his butt off on for two years and funds for a family that had experienced devastating fire.

But then there are the WTF requests...One GoFundMe came 1/2 hour after a FB friend request from an aquaintance so he and his son could go to Disneyland...really?? Unfriend!
Then there was the campaign from the person who wanted to quit her job so she could write a book...Geez, wouldn't we all like to do that...

I'm wondering what is your experience with these campaigns...Have you contributed to any? What is the strangest request you have had or heard of?

The sooner we stop identifying individuals by their differences whatever, they may be, the sooner we can all live in peace.

Estelle, I am so very sorry that your experience has been such a bad one. But truly there really are so many wonderful men in the world with so much love to give. My wish is that you are able to open your heart to this possibility and experience what this feels like. There is a wonderful quote "Be that change you want to see in the world". Try this and maybe you will get what you really yearn for.

If an email is so poorly written it implies a vauge understanding of the language, I suspect scammer. Especially if it starts with hello dear...

However, an inability to spell is not a measure of intelligence.

Judging them to be ignorant, may be though.
