I would say because men are very aware of how many options women have. So if it's not a scam, and is something real, then the nervousness of ****ing it up kicks in. The oh I messed up by saying that, well she wasn't interested in me anyways, she'll go talk the next 100 guys in her inbox

I heard it like this, the juice is no longer worth the squeeze. If your a 6 foot guy, 6 figure salary, 6+ inches, then you get all the women. If you don't meet the three sixs, then you'll mostly be ignored and watch what women offer for free to the guy that meets their standards.
