Thank you Robert. Sounds like you are to. We all need some help with the smoking to get us through the tough times. My daughter is my crutch. I quit when she was in Middle school and I still remember her telling me that I smell better when I didn't smoke. That really helps.

Buttons, my COPD was caused by a combination of smoking and chemicals I encountered in the Military. I was a diesel mechanic and some of the chemicals we used to clean parts were very powerful, and the doctors said that played a role in the problem with my lungs. I did smoke for 35 years. I started when I was around 15 and smoked until I was 50. I do not struggle with the urge as much as I used to. I can even go to a bar or resturant and not even think about smoking. I also gave up drinking and I can go to a bar and have a soda and just mingle with people. I do feel much better and I have gained some weight. As you can see in the photo my midsection is a little big. You hang in there and don't give in to the cravings

I also took the pnemonia shot. I have never had pnemonia and I am hoping I never will. I asked my doctor if I needed another one sine it had been 5 years and he said I would need another one when I am 65. Seems that if you take it before you reach 65 then you will need another one but if you git it at 65 then it is good for life.

I have taken a flu shot every year fro about 8 years now. I have COPD so it is a must that I don't get the flu if I can help it. It is not a real bad cold. I am just a little congested. I think it will play out in a couple of days. I am not bed riiden because of it. I am still out and about. If our weather would stabilize one way or the other it would help. The temp here fluctuates from one day to the next. We are 65 here this morning. Tomorrw we are suppoed to be in the low 50's

Good Morning everyone,
How is everyone this morning. It is a little cool here this morning but I think supposed to be around 80 this afternoon. I sure do wish this weather would settle down like fall. I took a flu shot a couple of weeks ago and I have a cold and possibly a touch of bronchitis. I sure hope not. |

I think we will have a good time. There are some things she wants to see and do while she is here. She hasn't been here since my wife passed(her aunt) so i think it will be a good visit.

I have not smoked since July 1st 1999. I have Been smoke free now for 9 and 1/2 years. I am beginning to feel like my lungs are improving some. I can do things now that I could not a few years ago. I do some exercises for my lungs that I get from a magazine that I get for people with COPD. They do help.

Good Morning,
My daughter is feeling a little better. The headaches have been less frequent and not as bad so maybe that is under control. The cyst doesn't seem to be sisolving so she may have to have surgery for that. I am glad she has an excellant OB/GYN and he is a surgeon and he does not believe in removing an overy unless it is absolutely necessary. |

I have been on Disability for the COPD since 1999. I took all the breathing tests and they determined I was in the range that rendered me totally disabled. I have been given both Social security disability and 100% service connected disability by the VA. I have never had any problem breathing at night or anything. I just can't do anything strenious because I can not get enought air in my lungs because I have lost the elasticity in them. I do seen to breath a little beter since I quit smoking. I still have to take espirtory function tests and lung x-rays every 2 years. I guess I will be like that for the rest of my life. I try not to let it get me down. I do what I can. I still do my own cooking and cleaning. It just takes me more time to do it.

Good Morning Carol,
How is everything with you today? |

I no longer allow anyone to smoke in my home or car. I used to allow it until recently. I repainted and there is no cigeratte smell in my home. I go to wal-mart and walk. It is to hot down here to get out and walk I usually walk all over the store at least once and normally spend all the money I saved on cigerattes. I am doing fairly well on my inhalers. I also do all my own house work and that helps keep the lungs functioning.
