I give you my friend...Charles Krauthammer...

What happened to President Obama? His wax wings having melted, he is the man who fell to earth. What happened to bring his popularity down further than that of any new president in polling history save Gerald Ford (post-Nixon pardon)?

The conventional wisdom is that Obama made a tactical mistake by farming out his agenda to Congress and allowing himself to be pulled left by the doctrinaire liberals of the Democratic congressional leadership. But the idea of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi pulling Obama left is quite ridiculous. Where do you think he came from, this friend of Chavista ex-terrorist William Ayers, of PLO apologist Rashid Khalidi, of racialist inciter Jeremiah Wright?

But forget the character witnesses. Just look at Obama's behavior as president, beginning with his first address to Congress. Unbidden, unforced and unpushed by the congressional leadership, Obama gave his most deeply felt vision of America, delivering the boldest social democratic manifesto ever issued by a U.S. president. In American politics, you can't get more left than that speech and still be on the playing field.

In a center-right country, that was problem enough. Obama then compounded it by vastly misreading his mandate. He assumed it was personal. This, after winning by a mere seven points in a year of true economic catastrophe, of an extraordinarily unpopular Republican incumbent, and of a politically weak and unsteady opponent. Nonetheless, Obama imagined that, as Fouad Ajami so brilliantly observed, he had won the kind of banana-republic plebiscite that grants caudillo-like authority to remake everything in one's own image.

Accordingly, Obama unveiled his plans for a grand makeover of the American system, animating that vision by enacting measure after measure that greatly enlarged state power, government spending and national debt. Not surprisingly, these measures engendered powerful popular skepticism that burst into tea-party town-hall resistance.

Obama's reaction to that resistance made things worse. Obama fancies himself tribune of the people, spokesman for the grass roots, harbinger of a new kind of politics from below that would upset the established lobbyist special-interest order of Washington. Yet faced with protests from a real grass-roots movement, his party and his supporters called it a mob -- misinformed, misled, irrational, angry, unhinged, bordering on racist. All this while the administration was cutting backroom deals with every manner of special interest -- from drug companies to auto unions to doctors -- in which favors worth billions were quietly and opaquely exchanged.

"Get out of the way" and "don't do a lot of talking," the great bipartisan scolded opponents whom he blamed for creating the "mess" from which he is merely trying to save us. If only they could see. So with boundless confidence in his own persuasiveness, Obama undertook a summer campaign to enlighten the masses by addressing substantive objections to his reforms.

Things got worse still. With answers so slippery and implausible and, well, fishy, he began jeopardizing the most fundamental asset of any new president -- trust. You can't say that the system is totally broken and in need of radical reconstruction, but nothing will change for you; that Medicare is bankrupting the country, but $500 billion in cuts will have no effect on care; that you will expand coverage while reducing deficits -- and not inspire incredulity and mistrust. When ordinary citizens understand they are being played for fools, they bristle.

After a disastrous summer -- mistaking his mandate, believing his press, centralizing power, governing left, disdaining citizens for (of all things) organizing -- Obama is in trouble. Let's be clear: This is a fall, not a collapse. He's not been repudiated or even defeated. He will likely regroup and pass some version of health insurance reform that will restore some of his clout and popularity.

But what has occurred -- irreversibly -- is this: He's become ordinary. The spell is broken. The charismatic conjurer of 2008 has shed his magic. He's regressed to the mean, tellingly expressed in poll numbers hovering at 50 percent.

For a man who only recently bred a cult, ordinariness is a great burden, and for his acolytes, a crushing disappointment. Obama has become a politician like others. And like other flailing presidents, he will try to salvage a cherished reform -- and his own standing -- with yet another prime-time speech.

But for the first time since election night in Grant Park, he will appear in the most unfamiliar of guises -- mere mortal, a treacherous transformation to which a man of Obama's supreme self-regard may never adapt.

very insightful analysis, boo.. it must have taken a looooong time to formulate such a scathing response..

ps, I love Michele Malkin! she's soooooo f'n hotttttt!!!

Thanks for the sarcasm. Frankly it wasn't worth my time so emoticons were all that was nessessary. I find Michele Malkin as obnoxious as Coulter, but to each their own.

Kinda like Oberman and Maddow?

I'm down here on the Mexican Border. Majority, Hispanic.
As we are all aware, BHO got the majority of Hispanic votes.
After many calls in opposition, the News Herald announced the Val Verde School District will not air the speech.
Now, those who claim only racists oppose BHO can include Hispanics to their list of racists.

He was not that popular with the hispanics. That is propaganda. Hispanics are prejudice against blacks too.

there she goes again, with her bucket of scarlet paint..

She might have a point there. There are different shades of black and the truely black person who doesn't believe his BS must be racist also.

Another point. If everyone who opposes him is racist, that would put at least 65% of the American population in the Racist category. His popularity level is less than 40%.

Nobody said all who oppose him are racist. It seems some on here take things personally, I wonder why?

Anyway, the reason the racial is so obvious here is that all presidents speak to the kids. ALL of them. There has never been such a stink made. The only difference from Obama and all others before him is that he doesn't have the shining white face. There have been liberal presidents before him, there have been democratic president before him, yet all of them were allowed to speak with children with few exceptions.

So it is obvious of the racial issue here.

The truth is often ugly but it is still the truth.

have you ever heard the expression, "when the only tool you possess is a hammer, you see every problem as a nail"??

there most certainly is a racial issue going on here. but it's not the one you think it is..

everyone from jesse jackson to Al Sharpton, both Reverends without congregations but that's another story, has played the race card when faced with opposition to any of Obama's pie-in-the-sky policy agenda items..

playing this race carsdis supposed to insulate Obama from criticism but it is only serving to isolate him from the nation..

so I'll ask you.. is there any issue upon which someone may disagree with Obama or his Administration without you yelling 'racism'??

theres an old saying...how do you know when you've arguement with a Liberal ?...answer...they call you a racist...

Ah, ain't that what Liberals call Faux News?? Can't believe what they report, they're biased.laugh laugh

Believe me if it were even slightly true, fox would be the first to make an issue of it. I am a liberal and I dislike Fox because of thier blatant bias, but they got this one right. Not controversial enough for them to twist I guess.

How ever this doesn't seem to stop you from making an issue of something that isn't happening.

if it wasn't for Fox news and the MobFather...Van Jones would still be in the White House...the state run media sure didn't cover the Van Jones story...

Yeah, it does. It announced his resignation last night.

it was Fox News...Sean Hannity...Mark Levine and The Mobfather Rush Limbaugh who exposed this guy...I posted about him 2 weeks ago...the state run media...may have announced his regisnation...but...they sure as Fugg...didn't expose him...as a true communist...like Fox did...Obama knew exactly what this guy stood for...thats why he was in the White House...

Dear Rev. Wright

I started to write: “Having a wonderful time. Wish you were here.” But you know better. Being president isn’t fun and games like I hoped. And I really don’t wish you were here. I could use a friend, but I need the Wright stuff like I need Arlen Specter. This summer I’ve got enough grief. It turns out the crowds that shout my name aren’t always saying nice things. That gets old fast.

I should have guessed it wasn’t going to be a picnic when the chief justice couldn’t even get the oath right. That mistake was uglier than Aretha Franklin’s hat. Talk about bad omens…

But even so, the first part of the year went so well. We passed the stimulus package and taught those Republicans that elephants aren’t the only thing that never forgets. I didn’t even give them a chance to read that bill. They were too busy eating my dust.

I got $787 billion – $2,600 per person. Even the Daleys never paid that much for votes. I think some money doesn’t run out until my second term. Then I took over the car industry to keep the union boys happy. The funny thing is, with all the limos, I barely remember how to drive. But that’s power – the Chicago way.

Things were good, not great. Who knew so many rich folks couldn’t do their taxes? I’m glad Michelle takes care of all our money. I can always blame her if anything goes wrong.

Thankfully, the media made me feel welcome. It seems like every journalist in the country has applied for a White House job. We hired about a dozen. (Most are so unqualified, it’s hard not to laugh. Some of their resumes are as thin as mine.) But that didn’t matter.

Whether they got the job or not, every one of them tried to outdo the others in their praise. The New York Times is so nice, I had one of my staff remind them I was married, just in case. And I’ve been on so many Time magazine covers that Editor Richard Stengel wanted to know if I’d autograph one for every new subscriber. (One Conan O'Brien promo and everybody wants a piece of me.)

Then summer came.

Instead of hitting the beach and having a fine Pinot grigio, I end up working on my bowling and downing beers in a west wing kegger. All because I go off script one time and speak my mind. From now on, I’m gluing that teleprompter to my hands. And take a tip from me, never let a committee pick your beer. You end up with a bottle of Bud Light. Ick.

The ebony and ivory summit was bad enough. Things really fell apart when we got to health care.

We did everything by the numbers. We looked at how the Clinton folks ran health care last time and we did exactly the opposite. I bought off everybody I could – doctors, pharmaceutical companies, NBC and more. If they couldn’t be bribed, they were bullied. Rahm’s specialty. We talked to everybody who mattered.

Except, I guess, the voters. Who knew they actually mattered any time other than in an election? It wasn’t my fault. I’ve barely run for anything in my life. But the whole town hall situation caught us with our pants down – oddly reminiscent of Clinton.

It just got ugly from there. Yelling, screaming, threats, protests. And that was from Democrats. Blue Dogs were angry about the public option. And progressives were angrier than Michelle was when Sarko and I checked out that Italian booty.

Now I’m stuck using Ted Kennedy’s death as a rally cry for “KennedyCare.” That only works if no one looks at the care he got – flying a private jet to the best surgery team in the country.

And forget all that anti-war garbage. I can already see the “Obama = Carter” bumper stickers. I can’t cut and run from Afghanistan so I had to use the best strategy. Just don’t tell anyone I stole it from GW. The left howled enough already. Cindy Sheehan actually protested my vacation, the little ingrate.

To keep the left happy, I let Holder do a Michael Vick on the CIA. Progressives always love that.

The high point of the summer? Getting Sonia Sotomayor confirmed? Hah. With 60 Senate votes, I should have been able to get Ron Jeremy confirmed. Now that’s power. “Wise Latina,” my butt. If she was so wise, how come she got caught on video? You don’t see my college days ending up on YouTube.

No, the only fun I really had all summer was speaking in Cairo and telling everyone that I’m “Barack Hussein Obama.” Can we annoy the birthers? Yes we can. Darn, now I have that song stuck in my head. If I hear the Black Eyed Peas sing “Yes We Can” one more time, I’m going to appoint a music czar and have the song banned. Give me some Barbara Mandrell any day.

Here’s hoping things change when Congress gets back. Not that hope and change ever made things better. Well, there’s always a first time.

Your friend,

Barry, oops, Barack

and the winner is...for your Sunday morning pleasure...

Seeing that polls give us little snapshots of what the appetite of the nation is like at any given moment, I'm astounded by the moment we find ourselves in. As you sit reading this, former Vice President Cheney is on a two month surge of popularity. President Barack Obama, on the other hand, is doing his best Wile E. Coyote impression with no brakes on the rocket car, and has just careened over the edge of the fifty-foot cliff.

So what has boosted the former Vice President anywhere from 8-10%, while watching the President nose dive 11-14%?

I'm certain the layers to this answer are many.

The President has had a rough summer, and with his fall looking even more deficient in enthusiasm due to dropping employment numbers and even more depressing economics, things look tough for the foreseeable future. People could be remembering that unemployment during the previous administration hovered in the 4-5% range for nearly the totality of two terms, and as such people long for the days when they had jobs. Obama promised he'd personally never allow the unemployment rate to surpass 8%, but now with his current unemployment rate rising to 9.7%, the President wishes he could somehow get back to that 8% number desperately.

But I'm fairly certain that it's something more than that.

The current administration doesn't seem to understand that creating growth within the economy would help solve the most number of needs for the most people. If someone has a job, they can choose whether they want health care or not. If someone has a job, they can decide to invest and save for the future, so that when tough times come they're more prepared. If someone has a job, they can feed their family, and give the ones they love a better place to live. If someone has a job, many other parts of life get better for many, many people.

Vice President Cheney never forgot that by helping the small businessman in America you help roughly a dozen families simultaneously. By cutting the tax burdens of small business (people the current administration label "rich" and "evil") you help provide the livelihoods for a dozen families. By creating a smaller burden on small business you would create jobs, and jobs solve many other problems that Americans are now facing.

Yet again, I'm not truly convinced that this is the secret to why America is moving towards Cheney and away from Obama.

Personally I think it comes down to gravitas, seriousness, and the ability to look out for Americans.

President Obama seems completely uninvolved in the actions of his Attorney General Eric Holder. He's even gone so far as to intimate that he cannot control the choice of cases Holder decides to open, look into, and go after. But even political novices aren't fooled by this kind of sophistry.

Security also seems to just be a game to the current administration. Something that's fun to use politically (like pitting the Afghanistan conflict vs. the Iraq theater during the campaign), until one day they wake up and realize that Afghanistan may be a bigger mess than Iraq was. The administration is reckless when it goes to make speeches in radical regions of the globe and says in a gathering of Muslims that America is a Muslim country, and that Americans share the same values as Islam.

You see, Vice President Cheney, or Lord Vader, or whatever you refer to him as, might have had a pretty opinionated view of terrorists, and not necessarily the kindest. You know they did plan on flying an airliner into his office and all. The man was never confused, however, over whether or not subjugation of women, honor killings and female circumcision were "American values."

Furthermore, Vice President Cheney also strongly believes that the men and women that are asked to do the difficult things with terrorists to get the information that saves American lives should be given the legal protection they were granted by the Justice Department to carry out those tasks to begin with.

I know, I know, President Obama and General Holder think playing Arabic Yahtzee will yield the same results for the future, and maybe it will. There is no reason, however, to go open up new cases on the men and women who did their job, kept us safe, and have never so much as heard a "thank you" from an administration that owes its very possibility to their success.

In short, Vice President Cheney believes there are such things as heroes, and he is just an old fashioned enough guy to step up and say so.

President Obama, on the other hand, asks Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod, and Robert Gibbs if heroes exist, and goes with whatever two out of three say. (Which explains why he is often spotted wandering the halls of the West Wing mumbling to himself, "Save the cheerleader! Save the world!")

At the end of the day, serving "We The People" as President has turned out to be much harder than simply talking about being President.

And doing so while trying to change the very fabric of what America fundamentally is has not been quite as easy as simply repeating the words, "Hope and Change" while clicking one's ruby slippers together three times.

President Obama lives in a world that he desperately wishes existed. Vice President Cheney lives in the world that actually does.

And as much as he does not relish having to correct the current administration on policy, Americans are showing that they are grateful that he's taking the time to do so.

Well... 8% more of them over the last two months anyway.

If you kind of like freedom of speech, and don't want the government to be able to censor you - (you think the 1st and 14th amendments are good ideas) - thank a liberal.

your workplace is safe and you are paid a living wage, including overtime; if you enjoy a 40-hour week and you are allowed to join a union to protect your rights without being fired, beaten or lynched, thank a liberal.
If you have not died from tainted meat, or been prescribed something useless or poisonous by a quack doctor, have not given your children cough syrup which turned out to have heroin as its secret ingredient, thank a liberal.

If you ever drank a beer or a glass of wine without being thrown in jail, thank a liberal.

If you are not a land-owning white male, but have voted, thank a liberal.

If you or your parents or grandparents have ever used Medicare, thank a liberal.

If you've ever driven on an interstate highway, thank a liberal.

If you have ever breathed clean air or drank clean water, thank a liberal.

If you grew up in a family of less than 12 kids, like the idea of being able to choose if you have 12 kids or not, if you don't live in an overpopulated third world slum, or just think birth control is a good idea, thank a liberal.

If your family benefited from the GI Bill of Rights, FHA or VA mortgages, thank a liberal.

If your children go to school instead of working in the fields, a factory or the coal mines, thank a liberal.

If you're part-Irish, Catholic, or Jewish and are allowed to live in America, and are not harassed and attacked for failing to be born white Anglo-Saxon Protestant, thank a liberal.

If you're not a slave or "indentured servant" (white slave), don't think protection of slavery belongs in the constitution, if you've never been chained to a boat where half the passengers die, been whipped, had your family split up, been forced to "breed" with another slave you've never met, been raped by your boss, or killed for not being profitable, thank a liberal.

If you have never been lynched, or had your children firebombed in a church, thank a liberal.

If you have ever done anything that is a religious or superstitious taboo (think oral sex, shaving your beard, backtalk your parents, wearing clothes made from 2 types of fabric, etc.) without being stoned to death or cast out as a heretic, thank a liberal.

If you have never been raped, and then had the rapist escape punishment on the grounds that he marry you, thank a liberal.

If you are glad that the Nazis don't control half the world (conservatives opposed joining World War 2 until it was forced on them - look it up!), thank a liberal.

If you don't have to walk through ankle-deep sewage in the streets (because sewers are big government), thank a liberal.

If you have ever eaten food (agricultural subsidies), flicked on a light switch (rural electrification) or benefited from programs such as the Tennessee Valley Authority, thank a liberal.

If you do not have skin cancer, and have ever stood outside without having a peeling sunburn within moments, thank the ozone layer, thank the ban on CFC's, and thank a liberal.

If you have not died in a heat wave, drought, hurricane, flood, wildfire, or other climate change disaster, and like the idea of your children and grandchildren not living in desert wastelands, thank a liberal.

If you are glad we don't live in a right-wing dictatorship along the lines of what conservatives overtly and covertly created in Iran, Guatemala, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, the Congo, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil, El Salvadore, the Phillipines, Indonesia and others, thank a liberal.

If you have ever visited or bought anything from Europe, and are glad the Marshall Plan kept it from remaining a bombed-out shell or falling to communism or neo-fascism, thank a liberal.

If you've ever seen a national park, and it hadn't been strip mined and clearcut into a desert wasteland, thank a liberal.

If you kind of like freedom of speech, and don't want the government to be able to censor you - (you think the 1st and 14th amendments are good ideas) - thank a liberal.

one czar down...and...33 to go...this guy was a self proclaimed communist...there's another czar in this administration that needs to " Take a Hike "...Mark Loyd...the diversity czar...this guys way out their...his objective is to squelch...silence...and...crush free speech by the opposition...through any means available...either using the Fairness Doctrine...or...by charging radio stations huge fees to operate...especially those...who oppose Obama...meaning NPR is safe... ...another radical leftist is John Holgren...the science and car czar...who says " Forced abortions and mass sterilization are needed to save the planet...A "Planetary Regime" with the power of life and death over American citizens "...some more of his words of wisdom...

• Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
• The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation's drinking water or in food;
• Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
• People who "contribute to social deterioration" (i.e. undesirables) "can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility" -- in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
• A transnational "Planetary Regime" should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans' lives -- using an armed international police force

Obama Under Fire on Message to Students
The right side of the blogosphere is buzzing about next week's presidential speech. Not the address to Congress about health care reform on Wednesday -- the message to America's schoolchildren he'll deliver Tuesday morning.
President Obama's speech on the day many kids start classes this year will urge students to be responsible and stay in school. But some conservatives are up in arms over what they see as an attempt to spread Obama's "socialist ideology," as Florida GOP chairman Jim Greer put it. There's even an online movement encouraging parents to protest by calling in to work sick and keeping their children home from school on Sept. 8.
The White House denies there's anything political about Tuesday's speech, but the government's suggested lesson plans for teachers have been changed because of the conservative criticism. A call for students to write about "what they can do to help the president“ has been cut.
An incident in Utah is also stoking fears about government indoctrination of students.
The principal of an elementary school in Farmington showed this "I Pledge" video at an assembly. It begins with images of President Obama talking about patriotism, hard work and responsibility, followed by celebrities making pledges. Most are apolitical, but in one clip, Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis says, "I pledge to be of service to Barack Obama."
Gayle Ruzicka, president of the Utah Eagle Forum, blasted the video as "radical, leftist propaganda." A school district spokesman says the PTA board picked the video and the principal -- who hadn't seen it before it was shown to kids -- has apologized.

technically he's a Fascist...socialism is when the government owns and runs private business...fascism is when the private sector owns the business...but the governement runs it...although...there is an arguement for both sides...

Well said. :)

What does that have to do with a president speaking to children?

it means...I don't listen to or believe ANYTHING any Fascist...reads off a teleprompter...words written by someone else...

Oh please, even you believe words written by someone else, just not the ones you dislike.

the point is...does HE believe what he's reading...

GWB quotes are funny and miscues...Obamas are anti-American and his beliefs...

I disagree.

I do not find these things that Bush said funny at all:

"The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." --State of the Union Address, Jan. 28, 2003, making a claim that administration officials knew at the time to be false

"The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him." --Washington, D.C., Sept. 13, 2001

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority." --Washington, D.C., March 13, 2002

This is not funny either:

You work three jobs? ... Uniquely American, isn't it? I mean, that is fantastic that you're doing that." --to a divorced mother of three, Omaha, Nebraska, Feb. 4, 2005

Nor this:

Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." --to FEMA director Michael Brown, who resigned 10 days later amid criticism over his handling of the Hurricane Katrina debacle, Mobile, Ala., Sept. 2, 2005

Not funny:

You know, one of the hardest parts of my job is to connect Iraq to the war on terror." --interview with CBS News' Katie Couric, Sept. 6, 2006

"The same folks that are bombing innocent people in Iraq were the ones who attacked us in America on September the 11th." --Washington, D.C., July 12, 2007

and your point is ?...these are quotes...given from the heart...without a teleprompter...not something someone else wrote...that needs to be read...you're making my point for me...and I thank you for that...

"I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Over the last 15 months, we've traveled to every corner of the United States. I've now been in 57 states? I think one left to go.

Money is not the only answer, but it makes a difference

I cannot swallow whole the view of Lincoln as the Great Emancipator.

We can't drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times... and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That's not leadership. That's not going to happen

We need earmark reform, and when I'm President, I will go line by line to make sure that we are not spending money unwisely

You will not see any of your taxes increase one single dime

"To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists."

"That’s just how white folks will do you.

"I found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother’s race."

"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join me as we try to change it."

What garbage. It is ashame the lengths people will go to try to make lies the truth.

Really it is just ridiculous.

he said it...I didn't !!...google it...it's right out of the mouth of Van Jones...I mean Barack Hussien Obama

It is taking a small portion of what was said and making sound like it means something else. Garbage like I said.

maybe it's where I live. the racists people that I hear from around hear don't hide the fact that they are racist because they see nothing wrong with it (which goes for all races)

I dated a man that didn't show any signs of being racist. Then...after the election, he tells me that he's a Democrat but he voted for McCain because he didn't want any black man in the White House. I was stunned. My Dad's best friend is a Democrat that did the same thing. We didn't see that coming.

I know people that hide the fact that they're racist.

I'm more of an Archie Bunker bigot...

He definitely was one.

afterall...he is my hero... (_0_)

Sad to say actually.

really ?...he's pretty harmless...as am I...

Hard to be afraid of someone that never evolved beyond the 50's. So in that sense you are harmless.

thank you...I actually walked a 90 year old lady across a busy intersection...last week...
