Country Days

I remember
country summer days
where front doors
were intentionally left unlocked
and windows
were opened as wide
as the dusty road leading to our home
was long

Somehow
life felt as if there were no such thing as a stranger
or a bad day
and that the joys of fresh air
was in the games we played

Outside
under the sun's watchful eye
we laughed
played
and discovered just how special
each minute could be
as fought the night with every ounce of childhood

And when we lost the fight
we'd simply gazed upon the night's starry sky
and wish
for tomorrow
for a longer summer
with more laughter
as the innocence of happiness
was all we knew

To Just Be

I can remember
the sound of water
flowing as easily
as the sun's gentle burn
beautifully painting the trees
the colors of life

There was always
the easy sounds
of nature playing the soundtrack
to our laughter and innocence
during our journey
of undiscovered paths
through the forest

Summer moments
drifting by
with childhood friends
who never stopped to wonder
why
time would move so fast
the day
was the day
and nothing else

And now
when the brutally cold
day in
and day out of life
encompasses
so much of what we do
I find myself wanting to be that kid again
to be innocent
and free
to just be

It has never been my intentions
to have
small insignificant moments
not worth
the effort of memories

Nor have I ever planned

within time's never ending fight
between
sunshine
and darkness

I never want

battered

but please know

I understand
that arguing

A hauntingly sojourn
of midnight clouds
traversed through the moon's shimmering essence
fluidly ravaging its light

and intentional shadow
that created an abstract sky
of darkness
and then light

The world feels different now
changed
from the time when the sun’s light
reflected within the souls of the dreamer
now
there is uneasiness
a silence
made louder by the heaviness of the heart's beat
the deafening roar
that follows the flash the courses through the veins
of those who have lived through the worst of life
they know
that it will rain again
when
or for how long
is unknown
but it will rain again
and then it will pass

I hate
the rain
the clouds
and the wind

feeling
the way I do
when the storm comes

Sometimes
I just want to run and hide
find solace
in a memory
like on warm sunny day
when you and I
held hands
and laughed

But I hate this
today

these feelings

as it pours its gloom over my soul

The Recipe

Got troubles?
so does most of the world
I have 'em
quite a few
at times
but I got remedy
or shall I say
a recipe

At sunset
on a Saturday
turn off the lights
get a rocks glass
add one rock (your choice if you want one more)
and slowly pour
three ounces
which is a double
let it sit
then sip
and think about your troubles
then repeat

Usually
after the second
the sun
has eased into the night
taking with it
the bothers of the day
and all that's left to do
is absolutely
nothing (don't you just love a good bourbon)

Darkness
beckons
as the layers

There is a quiet
amongst the intricate personalities
standing on the pier
as each awaits
the first shimmering homage
to time's calloused hands
to appear

The gentle wind
and dancing waves
filled with the sky's delicate allure
seemingly hold thoughts hostage
as the gazing eye perceive dusk
as a chance to relax
a moment to fall in love
or a time to let go
and in the midst
of this transition
