Thank you both, much appreciated.

I liked that line Tease so I'll probably put it in my next six poems
whether it should be there or not.

A Green and Pleasant Land

The grass is green in Northumberland, Durham,
Cumberland and the Borders. Leafy trees adorn
valleys hills and dales. Lakes and loughs mirrors
in the sunlight, black lacquered in the moonlight.

Those in their two point whatevers racing from city
to city, shaking the dust before it can settle. The
ribboned road before them. More speed, we're
burning daylight, as if there would be no tomorrow.

I've heard it boasted of the miles covered that day,
but not of what was seen. Lady sat nav said, "Go
like the wind, fly like an arrow." No winding lanes;
hawthorn dykes, thistled meadows, gnarled oaks.

A tartan blanket on the ground, flasks of tea, drinks
of pop. The taste of heaven to wet the whistle. Smell
the grass, watch the clouds, listen to the birds, taste
the good clean air. Oh for the twisty winding road.

Dreams

I knew you were going to ask me what I remembered
of my dreams.
Well I know I want to live in one of them, and you are
welcome too, but please don't ask me which.

I know this will frustrate you, but you asked me and I
did not know, should I have? My not knowing worries
me. Perhaps we should dream again. I can fly in mine
but I know you are afraid of heights.

The Knowing

I thought I was where I wanted to be, only
to find I was in the wrong place. Each day
a dying,
a waste of life.

Hopes and dreams flickered out touching the
lives of others, but I would not be held within
another's life,
that I did not want in mine.

Life raced by a pace. Dogs barked at wolves on
my passing, I howled at the moon. I paused, did
not dwell,
hardly broke my stride.

Relentlessly I tracked my dreams across a lifetime,
without learning to live those lives.
never knew
how to love or be loved.

I knew there was no going back. Unable to outrun
the knowing in my head, this dawning in my mind
awoke me,
shattering my illusions.

But still the spirit in me burned. Beaten I had been but
not defeated. Looking at the life I'd lived, I did the only
thing possible,
" I put a smile on it all. "

Wind Dance

Wind blown shadows flickering across the land.
Dancing in the light of the sun, eternal rhythm flowing to
the vagaries of mistrals and trades.

Shining moon, bright night. Scudding clouds effortlessly racing
over undulating hills and valleys. Dark shades gliding silently,
caressingly mottling the landscape.

Sunlit days, moonlight nights; waving branches on painted walls,
beckoning, dappled trees on ribboned roads, rustling restlessly.
Unseen unheard ignored, the dance, of "The Wind blown Shadows."

Thank you. I'm glad you think what I did was right.
I just wanted to mark her passing and sadly there
are a lot more I could write for along that lovely

The Puits de Mons

Walking down a rural lane in France I happened across the Cure's goat .
He looked at home, taking his ease in the shade of an old well
Now I'm good at acting the goat as well as being an old one so naturally
we got on well.
His English was pretty good and we soon fell to talking. He said his name
was Billy, and I thought what a coincidence.

Then he started to tell me about the Puits de Mons. A magic well by his
account and that "barmecide" goat Billy said, that if I placed a silver coin
into its mystical waters I would be granted a wish.
I thought he was "kidding, butt," you never know with goats and who am
I to argue with a Frenchman in his own land.

It was then I spied a corpulent cleric approaching, I guessed it must be the
Cure', after all Billy was his goat. I greeted the cleric, and told him what the
goat had said and asked if it were true.
A strange look came over his face and in heavily accented English, not as
good as the Billy's, he asked how on earth I could have had a conversation
with a goat.

Well I must admit when you think about it, who would believe it? I did feel
like a fool and embarrassed, so quick as a flash I threw a coin into the well.

Now that I'm home I must admit I do miss that goat and his conversation

I often walk along the riverside into Newcastle. My City has a
lot of bridges. Beautiful bridges which are sometime used for
the wrong type of crossing.

I came across Adie's flowers and a little sad note from her family,
which were tied to the railings.
I decided to write a "Ballad to Adie" and add it to the families
sentiments. I hope they don't mind.
I am typing it here just as I noted it down as I sat by the river,
with no corrections. Adie I'm sure will understand.

A Ballad for Adie

As I walked this riverside pathway Adie, yes the one that goes
down to the sea.
I stopped and read of your sadness and of the sorrow your family
felt, Adie.

I'm sure you still feel the hurt of life Adie, and the pain that
you went through, but grace is always given to those that stumble
and lose their way, Adie.

So cheer up little Adie, and when you're ready to have another go,
like these flowers that are wilted now; stand up straight, bloom
again, and sing it out loud, Adie.

No I never knew Adie but now perhaps she knows me.

Queenie. She asked me about the future. I said I didn't
know, and this worried me. Should I have known?

Take me in your arms, my body, "Light and a
Feather," then you will know the truth of it.
Do not weep for me, for you will have freed me,
"Me and also another."

Wind blown Shadows

I joined the wind blown shadows flickering across the
land. We danced to the light of the sun and the moon,
an eternal rhythm flowing to the whim of gentle zephyrs.

Moonlight nights of scudding clouds. The joy of racing
effortlessly over undulating hills and valleys. Our dark
soft smudgy shapes silently mottling the landscape.

Bright sunlit days we beckoned to you; waving branch on
a painted wall, dappled tree on a ribboned road. But you,
"Oblivious," a discordant starkness amongst the
"Wind blown shadows."
