A Green and Pleasant Land
The grass is green in Northumberland, Durham, Cumberland and the Borders. Leafy trees adorn valleys hills and dales. Lakes and loughs mirrors in the sunlight, black lacquered in the moonlight. Those in their two point whatevers racing from city to city, shaking the dust before it can settle. The ribboned road before them. More speed, we're burning daylight, as if there would be no tomorrow. I've heard it boasted of the miles covered that day, but not of what was seen. Lady sat nav said, "Go like the wind, fly like an arrow." No winding lanes; hawthorn dykes, thistled meadows, gnarled oaks. A tartan blanket on the ground, flasks of tea, drinks of pop. The taste of heaven to wet the whistle. Smell the grass, watch the clouds, listen to the birds, taste the good clean air. Oh for the twisty winding road. |

Thank you both, much appreciated. I liked that line Tease so I'll probably put it in my next six poems whether it should be there or not. |
