So...instead of getting up way too early (for me: wink: ) to cook the turkey, someone suggested slow cooking overnight. 200 degrees 12 hours. Went online and alot of them said blast it for a hour @ 400 then down to 200 for 10-12 hours. It's a 18 pounder, no stuffing. any input would be appreciated. thanks. well maybe this can help you figure it out....you are suppose to cook a turkey 20 minutes for each pound at 400 degrees....my thinking is if you are cutting the temp in half then you have to add to the cook time so 40 minutes per pound at 200...that would be 12 hours according to my calculations hope this helped

Many of you do not know what has been going on so here goes.....I don't normally put this personal of imformation out there about myself but my father could use all the good thoughts and prayers he can get.
Last August my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. January 2009 he had 2/3 of his left lung removed and all but 1 lobe of his right removed. He has remained cancer free until about a month or so ago, when the doc noticed the mass in his brain was getting larger. Apparently lung cancer and brain cancer go hand and hand. In most cases they find the brain cancer before the lung cancer. The petscan from last month has determined that Dad's lung cancer has returned and unfortunately in an area that is impossible to operate on. Because of this he can not get radiation only chemo. Such a sad state that Medicare only covers so much and has a cap on the amount towards medical coverage. Cancer treatments are so expensive that my parents have gone into so much debt just to keep his meds in stock let alone the cost of the tests and procedures associated with cancer. My parents have been married for 45 yrs and never have I ever seen the love they have for each other ever fade. Please keep my father in your thoughts and in your prayers Thank you my friends

As the Holidays fastly approach I sit here thinking of all those that we have loved and lost wondering what life would be like if they were here, if they are looking down on us, protecting us from some evil force or even ourselves for that matter.
Wondering why life has chosen to take some at such a young age, yet let others life forever it seems. No I don't know the answers to all these questions but in my beliefs I believe there is a reason for everything just because I do not know the reason has no bearing on my beliefs. Remember the holidays are for a time of sharing and celebrating.....so this holiday season celebrate life with those you love.....remember those that have left us behind..........remember during this busy time to have compassion for those that need it......remember a simple gesture of a smile or a hello could brighten someone's day or even life. |
