i am a young mother with a beautiful little boy he is a 1 1/2 year old we are goin through a rollar coaster with is father... his father and i were together for 2 years and he was with me up until a day before i went into labor and never showed up...now he came back and expects me to have a happy family..
i don't know if i can trust him or not
Unfortunately... you are the only one that can make that decision... I would at very least, give it a try. Little bites at a time... Every child needs his father.

At what age..do you think a child is able to stay home alone for a few hours?
Depends on the maturity of the child... my 12 year old daughter stayed home alone for 3 hours after school.. while my 16 year old step son... I'd never leave home alone :D

laugh its a 12 step program like AA... Usually if the girl really likes you, she wants one of her friends advice by now, and wants you to meet them...

Anyway... on to dinner.. yea, just keep it simple. The whole night shouldn't ever revolve around the dinner.
