From as early as I can remember I wanted to be an artist. Actually I guess I just started drawing and seemed get good comments about it so continued and then it just developed and grew as these things do.

Then around 14 I discovered music, or should I say music jumped into my heart in a major way around that time (thanks Beatles - MMT and White Album). It was some kind of major force in my soul! Before that, it was just fun noise on the radio (Monkees). Then when I actually learned to play an instrument, it quickly became a career and blossomed and blah, blah, blah.

Long story short - it all came true. And I'm so glad it did!

Other dreams appeared along the way (film and TV director, writer, animator) and those were realized too, at least on a certain level.

So dreams can come true - it can happen to you - but you have to work hard at making them happen! I say, you excell at what you spend time doing - and that includes doing nothing.

What's the old addage - the harder I practice - the luckier I get! I believe this! But still, a little actual luck don't hurt either!!! :)

As a musician myself, I would really like to know what instrument you play, and if theres any way we could hear some of your stuff.flowerforyou

I played bass guitar for many years professionally and had the great fortune to play with many legendary and Grammy-winning artists through the years. I play many other instruments including guitar (electric and classical), flute, percussion, drum programming, etc., but now I focus on playing keyboards as I continue to compose and produce - my real passion. It's amazing how you can have the gear from fine pro studios at your fingertips through your computer these days, and all for pennies!

But I hope I get the idea across about spending time towards doing what you want to be! Not all goals can be reached this way, but I believe "where there's enough will, there's probably a way". And I think THAT'S one of this great lessons from this thread!

As for my music, please ask me in private. I'd love to hear what you do too, seriously! Thanks!

Howdy ya'll!

But seriously, just saying hey to all my fellow Texans!

Hope everyone's enjoying the summer days! What was it like 110 yesterday here in Houston!? Luckily, the humidity was only 99% so it wasn't all THAT bad!

Time for a splash in the pool and cold one! Take care and keep the shiney side up!

I was absent that day! Just sharing my opinion, as I am prone to do!

Just too many far better places to go where I live.

(EDIT: Oh sorry, didn't realize you worked there - need to read the whole thread before posting! Just not my thing, I suppose. But you make it sound pretty cool! drinker )

Besides we would probably seem like useless cattle to these time and space travellers. "How cute, they've built little cities and act all civilized." I'm just saying we would probably not be the least bit interesting to these brainiacs - not any more than a planet full of dairy cattle would be to us, beyond the shock of "life on another planet"!

FantasyArtMan

I am up to going along with "others" being on different planes...but I hardly think we are cattle to them. I personally have been visited and they were very curious as to what I consisted of.

I believe the USDA inspects all cattle before processing. Not that YOU are cattle of course, but just saying our amazing intellect may be a bit a little less thrilling to the highly advanced time and space travellers! But who knows!!!

Shoot, I get that from the Earthlings, who can't seem to figure out my race. I don't quite look hispanic (I'm not), don't entirely look Asian or Native American (I am) and they certainly don't see the Scandinavian in me (my paternal grandmother was Norwegian). One guy, after staring at me rudely for a while, walked up to me and said, "So what ARE you???"

My answer: "I'm HUMAN; what are YOU???" rofl

I wondered if you maybe had some Native American in your background! Very cool!

But that "What are you!?" bit is just amazing, isn't it! Guess he had to get his catagories form properly filled out!

Alterette: How about me? I don't think I look like anyone famous.

I'd say you have unique good looks, Alterette - and that's a good thing! But if I had to pick someone... maybe Ann Wilson of Heart in her younger (trimmer) days. Then again I don't REALLY know what Ann Wilson looks like, but that's what comes to mind! :)

Sorry you're having such a hard time, but with your alluring good looks I can imagine guys are just being honest - not that it makes the contact any less annoying.

I agree that writing in the forums is a good way to have people discover who you really are. On the other hand, your scenario seems to be somewhat the norm for attractive ladies on the web these days. It's a jungle out there sometimes...

All the best!

I love the metal sounds of Faith No More (especially the Patton years, and The Real Thing - great album!!!), and parts of Dream Theater. And I realize many hardcore metalheads may not even agree this is true metal (they aren't "metal" bands), but I say it's a form of metal, and one that I get lost in!

Some great 80s metal too! Even some pop/metal and hair band stuff is awfully inspiring! When it's good - it's great!!! But it has to have a little melodic meat on it for me - fuzz box noise and blown Marshall stacks is not enough anymore!

It's funny, when you list what you want in a partner it can sound like you want a clone of your self (save for the obvious physical diffs!), but I'm sure few people really want that.

I'd love to find someone fairly similar, but different in ways that might lead to both of our personal growth and happiness. Like a lady who loved to rock, but could balance books or help me stay on track with workouts and diet and such, and I could provide some facets that may be missing or weak in her life. It's this complimentary aspect COMBINED with the wonderful similarities that make for my best friend.

Maybe the path to finding a best match is to decide the aspects of your life you really need some similar interest in, and then decide what areas are less important to you and therfore more adaptable and accepting of different views and tastes.

I need someone who can relate to my hard rocking side, and hopefully appreciate my more gentle, smooth side too. I'd also find it hard to relate to someone who was far right wing, intolerant, cold, flighty, uncomminted, dull, drama queen,... is this just turning into a list!

Doesn't help that so many of us are complicated and even slightly contradictory! And then we say "we're not going to "settle"! But relationships seems to be about compromising, at least to some point.

Oh well, it's all a dream anyway... :)

Of course there are "aliens" out there in one of the billions of galaxies, each with billions of stars/suns. Have they come here? Hard to say when you look at the amazing burst of similar knowledge and construction prior to intercontinental travel. The Nazca Lines in Peru, batteries found in Egypt (for what?), and all the other Ancient Astronaut indicators sure can make an interesting warn - if you want to believe!

But consider two of many generally overlooked concepts - the size plane difference, and the time plane difference. Fruit flies and other bugs and animals are on far different time planes than us - why would alien life be on a time plane that we could relate to? If they could travel the speed of light, then it's conceivable they might be on a different time plane or able to shift. They may be on such a plane and move so fast that we can't see their movement, or even far beyond.

And why would these aliens be on a similar size plane? They might be microscopic or like bugs or mice, or be the size of a buildings. There's no reason to beleive aliens would be on a similar or relatable size plane. There's reason to think they would be anything even remotely like us on so many levels.

Anyway, that's what I think.

But, my dad who was a top aerospace design engineer tells a story before I was born of his and my mom's very close and clear (200') visual encounter while on a crowded bus in Mexico one afternoon. Lasted about 7 mins. and was right beside them in the desert. And my folks are not in the least prone to telling wild tales - analytical types. So, who knows! I personally find the whole idea fascinating and fun to imagine.

I always felt a little screwed on the nickname front as I was born with a very obvious and I suppose coveted nickname! So other nicknames seemed useless to others.

But one of our road crews started calling me "The Professor", which I kinda liked and lasted a while. Although some would use it sarcastically! :)

But like the topic sez, I've been called worse - but not usually to my face.

Yeah...

you wish you were stranded on "Gilligans Island" with Ginger, and Mary-ann, professor.laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Hehe, well there were plenty of "Gingers" and "Mary-Anns" around back then! I asked the guys why that name - thinking it was because I wuz so smert. They said it was that, but also because of my frequent use of a pipe, and that's all I should say about that! :)
