Why would Gotti wait until he got out of prison to have the opponent he didn't like whacked? I am guessing Gotti didn't pull the trigger himself, so couldn't he have gotten it done from inside? Why wait?

And if it is so plain that Gotti called for the hit the second he got out of prison, wouldn't the cops think so too? And following THAT logic, wouldn't Gotti's opponent, knowing everyone would blame Gotti for "doing it the second he got out", have one of his OWN guys kill someone the second Gotti got out, thus framing Gotti and sending him back to the can?

Hmmm, maybe it was LAW ENFORCEMENT who set up the whack for the "second Gotti got out" as a way to tell Gotti "It has been quiet, so don't be starting any turf wars, now that you are out, because we will blame that first whack on you and send you right back to the can"?

Or MAYBE it is someone who is looking to start merchandise sales going on a "Now Italy is Great Again" style of caps (hand-stitched in Venice, none of this cheap Chinese merchandise the OTHER jerk pushes)?

Even if that is the case, seems to me we will just have to see which fringe candidate gets the most electoral votes this time around. Trump was quite the 'fringe' himself, but on the far right side of things.

I am trying to remember, as i know trump has reversed himself a few times on the Electoral College: is he FOR the Electoral College this week, or against it?

I think Elizabeth Warren has come out in favor of ending the Electoral College, so Trump decided he is FOR it again.

Beto and Kennedy do have some similarities, both politically involved through their families at young ages, and both being young representatives in the House. That certainly fits the civic engagement and government experience that are important for me in a candidate.

I am eager to hear what his ideas are and what knowledge he has about the constitution and the branches and roles of government.

Here in the Northeast, Joe Kennedy III is a US Rep in MA. He claims good friendship with Beto, they both having been in the same freshman class. But he is also joking that he has already put his support behind Elizabeth Warren for president, and is now "torn" in his support for the two.

Folks sometimes say that it is the "Kennedy charisma power" that got Arnold Schwarzenegger the governorship (his wife is of course, Maria Shriver)... Of course, to me it sounds as scientific as "touch a leprechaun for luck" to believe that the Kennedy clan is any bit the political powerhouse it was half a century ago.

With Beto, as with them all, I am looking to hear what folks have to say, and to see what ideas are discussed. Way too soon to be talking about who is getting my vote (well, I have already stated here in this thread who is NOT getting it.) I know that my alma mater allegiance is supposed to go to Professor Warren, but as there will no doubt be other HU grads who will show up in the race eventually...

I think we can already see who the GOP is most scared of. Beto ORoarke is already getting a lot of the GOP attention: Somewhat Kennedy-like (has Kennedy friends too), young, in shape, had a respectable campaign in his loss in Texas to an establishment contender. He will definitely appeal to the younger voters who are looking for an antithesis to a dottering old fool like Trump. Part of the "Obama appeal" was his youth and vigor, and I think the GOP is taking note.

I have already heard of the skeletons in his closet with the motor vehicle incident, and that sounds like it has already played out. What else is being dug up in his background? Of course, with 45, it is going to be tough for the GOP playing that "character is an issue", because we now have the single slimiest character ever in the WH. I mean, 45 would not recognize the truth if it bit him on each nether cheek.

But then again, with the rate of defections from the main line of the GOP standing behind Trump, I am wondering if they run him again. Yes, this brings another "Perot Factor" into play, because the Cheeto will say that his bigly followers want him to run, so he goes independent, and that TOTALLY puts a Dem in the WH in 2020.

Maybe the GOP slips Trump a Mickey and makes the Cheeto bow out for 2020, medical reasons (would not be hard, all that McDonalds in trump's system, his lack of physical shape, probably one small syringe from the CIA)... leaving Pence at the top of the GOP ticket.... Beto easily beats Pence in a run-off

Yep, the GOP is scared for 2020. A big get-out-the-vote initiative like 2018, and a candidate that appeals to young voters, should be interesting.

And I love the lengths and rationalizations some folks are going here to justify their hypocritical acts.

You are using the site, someone else is paying for it, yet you have a problem with folks who use things that they have not paid for.

Like I say, I freely admit that I am using the welfare afforded me by Mingle, who is paying for this forum to be here.

Can you?

Funny how you go there, it says a lot about your bias. The woman actually has a pretty good, high paying and well-traveled job in ADDITION to a comedy career.

What is weird is that we need another Gerald Ford in 2020:

This president is going to inherit an extremely divided nation (I have not seen this nation so divided since Nixon and the 'Nam war), an out-of control debt that is verging us on bankruptcy, pissed-off allies, emboldened enemies, foreign influence now deeply seated in all areas of the administration for the past 4 years, and whole departments (such as Dept of Energy... Read Michael Lewis' book "The Fifth Risk", and try to get to sleep after) which have been shut down and plundered for 4 years.

Ford is not remembered as one of the 10 Best in the "House of 45", but he did restore some trust in the government again, he never reacted to parodies of himself (I would bet he even privately laughed at Chevy Chase's portrayal of him on SNL), he faced down some ugly domestic situations, including gas rationing, inflation, being shot twice, had a wife in rehab, rebellious kids in the White House... and did it all with presidential grace and never a belligerent blow up at the press or any kind of public temper tantrum. He had experience in working across the aisle to get things done, as he had EXPERIENCE in public office.

I would add that Ford was handsome and not cartoonish (no bright orange combovers there!), had served in his country's military, and (contrary to his penchant for falling down the jetway stairs off planes) was trim and athletic, having played college ball in Michigan. He was an image of a PRESIDENT, not a Bond villain.

Who do we have now that can fill that bill? Dem or Rep? We are going to need some serious healing.

You seem to not understand how sites such as this exist and make money. It is called advertising where companies pay to have their information placed in front of you almost constantly.

Sir, you are right, but to a point. There are no pixel ads to roll over in a format like this, and the site does not have banner ads, ads to the right, and does not sell space "above/below the fold". (having supported products used by companies like DoubleClick, I know how web ads work)

This site offers free accounts and paid accounts. If you do not have a paid account on this site, you are here by the good graces of the paid members. I am a "freeloader" here, and I admit it.

the only thing YouTube is good for is short documentaries, old westerns and music.

Don't forget some good how-to videos

But yes, Lee Camp and "RT" is paid for by Russian Propaganda funds. This is the kind of stuff that was put on social media by Russia to influence the 2016 election.

I've never voted Republican and I hope to the stars that I never will. U_U

Always keep an open mind in politics. Vote the person, not the party. Remember that JFK's policies are now looked at as conservative enough to be considered on the Republican side of the current aisle.

I have pulled the lever for MANY Republicans, including Reagan the second time around (which actually shocked even myself)... However, if the Republican candidate in 2020 is the Cheato Chucklehead, nothing in hell could get me to pull the lever for him. We will be lucky enough to survive 4 years with him lining his own pockets at the country's expense.

Personally I'd like to see another
Ross Perot run ( he's too old), but someone like him. He wanted to run the country like a business ( make $ instead of lose $). He was an outsider and really stirred up interest in a third party, but unfortunately we will never convince the majority of people to split from being Democrat or Republican.

Well, Perot brings up "the Perot Factor" that both parties have been scared of since '92. The Perot Factor is "What does a third party candidate do to an election?" We know that Perot took most of his votes from Big Bush (who was supposed to win handily.... Clinton was put in as a candidate because they actually were eyeing him to run the DNC after he lost), and resulted in a Clinton win.

The Perot factor came into play with the Tea Party too. Our best chance to have had a strong and real third party in the past 40 years, the GOP saw that the Tea Party could fracture its base, and did everything it could to incorporate the Tea Party into the GOP... Hence Palin being the bottom name on the ticket with McCain.

In 2016, Trump was almost begging the GOP not to pick him as a candidate (remember, Trump was a Dem for most of his life, up until recent times), so he could be "mandated by the people" to create his own party, then be a third party maggot that would throw excrement at both parties during the debates. (Those who remember Perot will recall that Perot's debate style took the debates down into the mud, just like Trump couldn't follow debate rules and keep his mouth shut when it was not his turn to speak... in essence, he cheated in the debate) Again, the GOP, fearing the Perot Factor, held their nose and placed him on the ticket. It is why you are now seeing the GOP support fracturing behind Trump; he is not truly one of "theirs", and the leadership does not feel the need to support him.

The COOL thing about Trump is that all the wackos who used to be Lyndon Larouche supporters, Libertarian fruitcakes, and all the other fringe-candidate supporters (Including lots of the folks who usually say "I hate both the Dem and the GOP candidate, so I will throw my vote Libertarian, to show my dismay with the major picks") pulled the lever this time for Trump.... The GOP is now trying to figure out how to hold those votes, like they held the Tea Party votes. "We certainly don't want these nuts' planks in OUR platform, but we like their votes"

Such long answers. Mine is short. TRUMP

Short answers are usually a good sign of a closed mind. Ever try to have a conversation with someone who simply answers using 1-word responses? Pretty boring.

Who are you guys supporting in 2020 or who would you like to see run?

I'll be honest, someone who I always wanted to see run was Elizabeth Dole. I admired what she did as Sec of Commerce under Reagan, and always thought that they had the wrong Dole running in 1996, because "Elizabeth, don't call me Liddy" would have had a better shot at challenging Clinton.

Unfortunately, Mrs Dole's reputation took a bad hack after 9/11/2001, when folks found out the Red Cross under her direction had been doing some bait-and-switch with donations. It pretty much ended her political career. Having seen her speak in 2000, she had the charisma and knowledge to have earned my vote.

As far as 2020, I don't think my candidate has announced yet. I certainly don't want another demagogue egotist liar, and though Pence will be the incumbent by then, I wonder if Pence can pull off an election. GLAD Hillary is not trying it again, could not stand the noise. I am laughing at Bill Weld trying for the 3rd party nomination.

Remember too, that this early in the game, the early frontrunners usually don't make it (Anybody remember when Howard Dean was on the cover of Time?) Elizabeth Warren might do well in NH next spring (just because she is from a neighboring state), but I think her campaign will be over by Super Tuesday.

Would not mind seeing Claire Underwood in the race... An Underwood ticket is one I could get behind. Tom Kirkman? Why do I get the feeling that we will need an event such as the one that made Tom Kirkman famous to truly purge the filth in DC?

It doesn't make a difference the candidate, the Orange one is never going to yield the spotlight, and will proclaim himself Emperor, like his best friend Kim did. Michael Cohan has told us, the Cheeto will not go quietly... and the worst part is, he will still have the brainless goons supporting his right to urinate on the Constitution yet again when it happens

He's doing the same thing Reagan did with Gorbachev. Clinton tried to buy them off and it didn't work. Obama couldn't even talk to Kim Jong Un. In 66 years, it took Trump to get somewhere somewhere with the Nokos.

So, how would you handle it?

As far as Gorby and Reagan, you might want to look back at the Iceland talks, and how and why they failed.

As far as "Clinton buying them off", state which Clinton you refer to and what you mean. If you are talking about a diplomatic solution, well, our Dear Leader has not a diplomatic thought in his egotist peabrain.

And it is funny how there are different approaches from our current administration regarding one Socialist regime (Venezuela) and another Socialist regime (North Korea). Trump is trying to "buy" democracy in Venezuela by shipping aid and supporting a candidate... In the meantime, we know that the average NKorean is starving as much as the Venezuelans.

Why hasn't Trump picked Kim's successor, and bought him or her (oops, I forgot, Trump would never back a woman, he is scared of and obsessed with the women he can't molest: Hillary, Sen Warren, etc) into office with boatloads of food? Cmon Cheeto, load up a bunch of Big Macs and TacoBell and buy your way into the North Koreans' hearts?

It is quite simple: Venezuela was already evolving (just as the Philippines evolved away from Marcos, and yes, how Iran evolved from the crooked Shah in the 70's. Evolution goes both ways), and Trump is just jumping on the bandwagon. Kim is nothing but a tinpot that Trump is trying to taunt into being another "emergency", so Trump can go in and buy his cooperation, get a lucrative business deal out of, and in the process try to buy his Nobel prize. (The Small One still has severe Obama envy, that is why he can't stop bringing Obama up every time he needs to deflect... Obama and Hillary both own mansions in the Orange One's head)

Trump is not allowing anyone outside of his inner circle (Pompeo, his daughter) in on the Kim negotiations because he is making BUSINESS deals with Kim in the name of our national security... If Trump can negotiate being a big player when NKorea rejoins the rest of the world, he can double his fortune when the N Korea economy booms.

It is easy to figure Trump out when you simply follow the MONEY. No matter what: Russia? Hotels, loans, money from Putin for influence, hacking. Vietnam? A growing economy, I would not doubt that he was there to negotiate private business deals. Mike Cohen? That was one of his checkbook guys (Stormy payout, etc) The Wall? I am sure he has invested in construction firms, concrete, and the Chinese steel companies he will exempt from tariffs when the wall is built. Weekends at Mar-a-Gaudy? All those staffers and secret service folks have to eat and sleep somewhere close by, what a great way to sell out a hotel and restaurant than to bring a "convention" in every weekend (do you think Trump Hotels give the government a discount?) Heck, ask John Legere of TMobile where he has to stay each time he is brought to DC to testify in front of yet another committee regarding the merger?

Hmmm, tinpot hellhole N. Korea got an American President to genuflect AGAIN at his feet and meet with him, and STILL N Korea is not giving up its nukes. Maybe Trump should read the book he supposedly wrote, "The Art of the Deal", because this is the second time he has walked away with NOTHING but making Kim Jong Un look like an equal. N Korea STILL has nukes, folks! And Donald STILL can buy his Nobel Prize.

Say what you will about the past administrations, but they knew that bending to Kim was just making the clown Kim look more presidential. Trump doesn't get it, he riles up Kim (as in calling him "Rocket Man"), but in TWO meetings fails to make the dictator give up his nukes and missiles. Heck, according to our own delegation, N Korea is still ADDING to their nuke program. Great job Orange One!! Give Kim another chubby over "fooling the Great Satan America again"

Hey, on the bright side, Trump finally made it to Vietnam, after being too scared and priveleged in the 60s. Let me guess, he is trying to get a Trump Hotel into Hanoi, and needed an excuse to go there.

Hmmm, wonder if the folks in Guam, Hawaii, or on the West Coast of the US feel safer tonight, knowing that Trump FAILED AGAIN to de-nuke N Korea?

Trump is a farce.

N Pelosi is ignorant. She has followers so, what does that tell you about them!!

She needs to get out of office.

I agree with everything you said, but only when I substitute "Trump" for "Pelosi", and the male pronouns for the female ones.

He doesn't realize that the borders are WORKING. Where was that recent 250 lbs of Fentanil intercepted when crossing in from Mexico, was it some unguarded stretch, or GOOD WORK by (unpaid) Border Security agents?

For you Trump supporters who can't do the math, it takes a fraction of a gram of Fentanil to kill someone. 454 grams in a pound, multiplied by 250... is over 100,000 deaths possibly prevented

And the WALL would not have made ONE GRAM of difference.

Drugs are coming in through the Ports of Call, more illegals come in through airports than across our borders. But still the STUPID Trump Supporters are listening to this senile turd ramble on about a "monument to his supporters stupidity"

If the border is so dangerous, MINE the damn thing, and save the construction costs. We have tons of mines in the Army's warehouses.... but, those mines wont make Trump any money.

I believe RT America...

mostly all of their shows ... are good ... I do not believe they are fake news at all ... they can say what the corporate media can't ... that is the big difference ... and is a preference ... or choice smile2

there really in turn to whats happens in the USA ... most all are Canadian or American Journalist ... their now talking about New knowledge... that show is propaganda also... trying to hurt new comers in politics ... never heard of it ... till now ...

I like Chris Hedges reporting ... on RT & ...

I did not say they were fake news, I said they are proven RUSSIAN PROPAGANDA aimed directly at Americans too lazy to think. READ the Wikipedia link tagged at the top of the comments.

When they tell you it is proven Russian Propaganda, you understand that a foreign power is paying to pipe that in here to influence how you think? And how you vote?

I read the article, and I have read all the comments here.

First, the article is basically an interview with an author who wrote a book. As I believe Igor stated, it is a puff piece with an old dude, and if the interviewer was really hard-hitting, she might have called Mr Langone out on a couple of his "mis-statements", the first one being when Langone said

"But look at what [Bill] Gates created; Jeff Bezos, the guy from Google, Home Depot, Walmart. Hey, we didn’t just get rich; we helped a lot of other people live better lives."

First, Jeff Bezos is is the major COMPETITOR to the folks at Google.

Second, Home Depot and especially Walmart have created the American sweat shop, where the employees are paid at the very bottom of the barrel. Anyone want to try to own a home, pay their utilities, try to raise a kid on a Walmart salary? 2o years ago I tried.

Home Depot at its inception doctored their books and counted empty boxes as inventory to make the books look good (anybody who worked at The Home Depot 29 years ago heard the stories in orientation of Bernie and Art... Funny how Ken says he was a founder, but we never had a mention of HIM) THD and Walmart used "inferior Chinese crap tools" and the like to undercut good American goods... I had loyal American workers who refused to use said Chinese crap, preferring to use American-made tools, like Stanley. (If I brought a tool to their job site with "China" stamped on it, they would not use it) Most "American" toolmakers since then have stopped manufacturing domestically; they could no longer keep up with the quality of their brands and match the price at THD. THD and Walmart led the way for good manufacturing jobs to go to China, and I don't think Stanley even has an American tool plant anymore. This proves MsHarmony's point that GREED is a killer of many things, capitalism included.

Lying about inventory on hand, filling the steel in the stores with empty boxes... hmmm, I am thinking that a lot of other American firms saw that "If it is good enough for THD, let's try it here" Bernie Ebbers of WorldCom (I used to call him "Uncle Bernie" in meetings) is still doing Federal time because of the shaky accounting practices the MCI folks convinced him "was the way everyone does it now". WorldCom was arguably the first of many firms whose failures, based on "Home Depot accounting" caused some serious crap in our economy. Oh, and watch the Enron documentaries to see how Enron's deception can be traced directly to the George W Bush White House.

So now greed is cool. It is OK to start things like airlines and universities, bankrupt them, screw the little folks (or as Ken Langone says " Like it or not, we’re not all created equal, OK?" That hit me as a little out of step with what our founding fathers believed when THEY set up this 243-year old capitalist experiment). I mean, casinos basically PRINT money, as a result of human greed; tell me how ONE man can BANKRUPT four casinos? Greed, deception, dishonesty... It is not the LEFT, Ms Toody, who has been slowly killing this country, it is the greed of members of the Right who has gotten us here, and the poster child for greed and dishonesty is at the helm.

I also question in the article how Mr Langone has such a bad taste about socialism, but knows so little about how it works. He can't name a place where it has not succeeded?

I think his book was misnamed, it should have been "I Love GREED and Screwin my Employees"
spoken like a true socialist!

Good, call me names, but don't rebut ONE SINGLE THING in my argument? You are an ***.

I will put your book on the list. Currently reading a VERY scary book called "The Fifth Risk", by Michael Lewis. I wish it was fiction.

A book everyone on this forum should read is "Factfulness" by Rosling. It will show you how folks are manipulating you.

As far as Redacted, the RT used to stand for Russia Today. It might pretend it is comedy, but judging by the comments underneath, a lot of folks are not getting the "Comedy" of it, but sucking up the propaganda as fact
