I took refuge and Boddhisattva vows many years ago at a Tibetan Center. There are so many flavors of Buddhist practice - perhaps that is why we are all still studying? The current Dalai Lama practices for hours daily - you never really stop practicing compassion. Well, you HOPE not to stop.

Many centers have so many different viewpoints and ways of doing things that finding what is most comfortable and 'right' is a challenge. Most of the Stateside Sanghas are asian. They are largely welcoming but the language and customs are different - and how do you have a conversation on 'mind' or 'nothingness' with someone with whom you share no common language?

Are there many Sanghas where you all are at? May I ask what the practices are?
