Hello Music Lovers!

Firstly; this topic would be directed to those who are not familiar with this class of music.

What is progressive music ?

As it relates to Progressive;and often called "Prog" for short. Was formed in the late 60's. I can give full credit to The Beatles for creating the first concept album.Best example would be "Magical Mystery tour". Some of the music on that particular recording was over the standard three-to-four minute length. Typical time length for the current Pop Music in that era.

Progressive Music also entailed a experimental aspect ;turning a bit away from the typical "Polished Commercial Sound"...and to add another Pioneer band to contribute to this was Pink Floyd; However the bands conception was a bit more freestyle, abstract and less structured.

Overall Progressive music is sophisticated;has some degree of complexity. Some music was composed in odd time meters versus the common standard four bars to a measure (4/4) time that still exists to date in the modern era of Music.

Here are a few prime examples :(Early to Mid 70's period ) RETURN TO FOREVER,YES,Emerson,Lake and Palmer,JETHRO TULL,GENTLE GIANT,HAPPY THE MAN,GONG,KING CRIMSON,P.F.M. ,Frank Zappa,GENESIS,BRAND X-(a sort of underground band Phil Collins formed alongside the GENESIS group attributions).

Also a few current examples : KENSO,ON THE VIRG,MARS VOLTA,PRIMUS,DJAM KARET ,PLANET X; of course the total list is almost endless.

If you have a interest in any of the Music groups mentioned; I would be very interested to discuss this topic to those like-minded;or perhaps have a interest to expand your knowledge of this music genre.

I'm curious if there is anyone into vintage Progressive rock and maybe modern jazz fusion? Some prime examples are found on my Myspace page (Top Friends List ). Same Screen Name.

Thanks for taking the time out to read this blog!
