It is what it is, some people get off on picking on others or just being
mean. I never understood it myself, but I'm sure we've all received one or two e-mails where the sender was being an ass just for the sake of being an ass. |

I'm going to have to call bull$hit on this one, Gina's "brother" makes
the same spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors she does? Nope, your writing style is as individual as your handwriting, same person. |

Gina, as Popeye would say "I've had all I can stand and I can't stand no
more" You've been on here for a little more than a week and a half (at least that was the first time I noticed your posts) and all I've seen you do is ***** and moan and moan and ***** about how bad the US is. I want you to tell me how many other countries on the planet you would be able to badmouth the government with no repercussions other than private citizens speaking back to you? OK, I'll go ahead and say there's the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and North Ireland), Spain, Portugal, France (iffy but I'll include them), Germany, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Canada and perhaps another half dozen countries. So if the US is as ****ty as you seem to think, why? WHY did you come here? To yank our chains? To ***** about how bad men are? You don't come to a country and talk about how bad it is and expect the citizens to line up and agree do you? Or perhaps you did and you thought we'd greet you as a hero, come to say what we all think but dare not speak. GET A CLUE! Many of the people on this board either have or had family members in the service, a few even served themselves and you want us to agree with you badmouthing the USA? Are you retarded? No, really, are you? You want to badmouth the US, fine, just don't expect anyone to welcome you with open arms and invite you to Sunday supper. I'm purposely toning this down since I've no desire to get the boot but it seems other than the dippy folks who seem to hold onto the idea that they might be able to get their **** wet with you, you're on your own here. Good night and good riddance. *flips the bird as he walks away* |

Quite, I think in many respects my generation has forgotten about what
it means to be an American and what the cost of being able to call ourselves "American" was. I have a few family members who served and several more who do the jobs others would rather not outside of the military. Everyday we should thank our lucky stars we have men and women who are willing to put others before themselves and in doing so protect this great country, both inside of it and outside of it. |

I was done with this thread but I keep seeing people saying that we
should "mind our own business". History shows that this does not work. Twice before in American history we have engaged in a policy of isolationism; once before WW1 and then again in the years leading up to WW2 (though yes, it could be argued that the second time was more economically imposed than an actual policy making decision.) We as a country cannot have it both ways, we must either lead by example (even if we don't always get it right) or we can allow other countries who would gladly lead the world down another path (take your pick communism- China, socialism- most of Latin America, or a theocracy- Iran/Muslim extremists). I can't remember where I got this, but for those who complain about what the USA doesn't do you never hear much in the way of praise for what we DO do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwAtNILh6uY |

Actually I'll go with Thomas to the Pats, what could be better than
taking a guy who plays so many positions and placing him with the coach that practically created hybrid "do-it-all" players? I friggin' hate the Pats too so it makes me ill to have to say that too. |

I agree it's no longer the "fire wagon" hockey of the 80's but part of
that is due to the way hockey (and all sports) go through changes. Over the years you're going to see the scores fluctuate (GPG wise) because teams begin to play more wide-open and then a few years later they will play more defensively it just goes in cycles. Having said that they need to let the enforcers do their job and protect their teamates; nobody is scared of going to New York for a meeting to have their punishment set, on the other hand having someone like Laraque dish it out next period and having to get a new bridge might make some of these guys think twice before swinging away. It worked in the eras of Eddie Shore and "Hammer" Schultz didn't it? |

You're thinking of Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi. Moore was paralyzed
after the hit (I can't remember if he's recovered somewhat or not) and yes if anyone ever deserved jail time for an on-ice incident it was Bertuzzi. However you last comment about taking away someone's livelyhood extends to more than hockey in fact it's about 100 times worse in football. The next time there is a pro football game (regular season I suppose) see how many times a player tackles at the knees or crackback blocks. Hockey is rough and I should know having played it for more than a few years but there's also a lot more respect among players than in other sports. |

He'll end up getting a punishment similar to what Marty McSorley got a
few years ago for a similar hit on Donald Brashear (If the sentence hasn't come down already). This sort of thing has been on the upswing for the last 10 years or so and not suprisingly it comes at the same time as the crack down on fighting. It used to be that you didn't do something like that because you knew that you were going to have to pay for it at the hands of someone like Bob Probert or Tony Twist; now, it's "do what you want" because the person doing it knows the enforcer will never be able to touch them without drawing a 10 minute major. It's BS and the skill players (not that Hollweb was a "skill" player) will keep getting hurt until they allow the players to police themselves. |

Yes, of course I was joking, there's no way I'm going to heaven. ;)
In any case yes, what you point out is correct, we cannot change people's hearts or minds with a gun any more than we could win a war with words. Changing moderate Muslim's minds is something that is left for people more qualified than I, but giving them choices in how their life is lived, what they are able to do, or where they can go cannot be a bad thing. As long as they have no hope of moving up in social status, attaining an education, or even having the hope that their children will have it better in 10 years than they do today, they will continue to be easy prey for the radical elements that tell them "American is to blame for all your problems, join us and strike against the Great Satan." When they are able to gain an education, travel, and see that the western world doesn't wish them dead they will spread that to their families and friends and then minds will change, but until then it's more of the same old same old. That or we could nuke the Middle East and give the Isrealies Mexico (yes, I'm kidding I know that sarcasm doesn't translate well to the written word). By the way Massagetrade, I don't take many things personally. Unlike, it would seem, some of the people in one of my other posts. :D |

I'm going to ask the moderators to close this thread (assuming they
exist) before it gets any more out of hand. I would, in closing, like to say a few things. First, I was NOT in any way refering to those who have learning disorders. I was in "specialty learning" classes years ago and I would not stoop to that; it's just low. Next, accidents happen, we all misspell words (and as I stated earlier there are no "edit" buttons), I have to constantly look up how to spell "incredible" or "probably" but I do it because I would rather people not look at my writing and think "Did this guy graduate 50th in a class of 20?". Lastly, the people who poo-poo my little rant and say that it's not a big deal I'll ask this. If you were having an operation and your surgeon came in and spoke like a person I'm refering to; would that fill you with confidence or dread? |

Massagetrade, you make a valid point about winning being hard to
define in this war. However our enemies have stated that their goal is to topple western goverment and impose their own sort of thoecracy on us, those who disagree can die or remain silent. I think that that is a fairly good description of what losing this war would mean. Does winning this war mean killing every man, woman, and child who is Muslim? I hope not. Does it mean we convert them to Christianity? Again, I hope not (I'm sure I'll have enough of a problem getting into heaven without MORE competition and no I'm not implying that Muslims will not go to heaven). What does it mean? I'm afraid I don't know what winning this war will mean; but I'm more afraid of what losing this war will mean. |

IS my life perfect? No. Am I perfect? No. Is that the only thing
that gets on my nerves? Hell no! But why (as one person replied) should we accept something just because it's an informal setting? Do you (meaning whoever reads this) express yourself differently when you're speaking with your boss or your co-workers than you do with your friends? Of course you do! You want your thoughts and ideas to be communicated effectively and so you speak more clearly to your boss than you would to your friends. This is a dating site and while I won't pretend to speak for every male in the US I would like to present myself as an intelligent person who can communicate effectively (something the ladies seem to think is fairly important in any relationship that last longer than one night) so that I might place myself in the best light possible. Expecting less of yourself because "everyone else is doing it" is ridiculous, you only end up cheating yourself. |
