---|---|
There are some big time Hockey fans in my family and this is what I have
been hearing about. I just saw it tonight on you tube (from March 8). Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esETGHljQi4 WHAP! He two handed the guy right in the face like swinging a baseball bat! yeesh! So what does everyone think about this kind of treatment/action? |

Hi!Verb.I hope all is well with you.And of course I hope your having fun
also.Does this site Rawk!or what?Heck Yeah!it does big~time.Yep!Plenty of hockey fans within the JSH site, but branched over several teams due to location of course. My team is ~BOSTON BRUINS~ Thx!for the info.and the link.I just watched the vid.playback.That is a vicious attack and is a major infraction with other more severe consequences to follow. He retaliated from what was considered a clean body check. So he was not provoked into this action.I think he should receive a hefty fine and suspend him for the entire balance of the payoff run. These actions provide an eyesore to the entire NHL,so in no way should it ever be tolerated.Deal with these situations swiftly and harshly to assure integrity is upheld within the sport.Godspeed!Cybear. flowerforyou: |

He'll end up getting a punishment similar to what Marty McSorley got a
few years ago for a similar hit on Donald Brashear (If the sentence hasn't come down already). This sort of thing has been on the upswing for the last 10 years or so and not suprisingly it comes at the same time as the crack down on fighting. It used to be that you didn't do something like that because you knew that you were going to have to pay for it at the hands of someone like Bob Probert or Tony Twist; now, it's "do what you want" because the person doing it knows the enforcer will never be able to touch them without drawing a 10 minute major. It's BS and the skill players (not that Hollweb was a "skill" player) will keep getting hurt until they allow the players to police themselves. |

I am not a sports fan but I just watched it and to me it looks like
aggrevated assault in my eyes, I say incarcerate his sorry ass. |

I'm in Colorado and the same thing happened here and the guy that hit
the other guy was fined and suspended the other guy I think had to retired from the sport. I can't remember their names but he took away his right to make a living. I really have a problem with that. If it was one of us we would be in jail right now. Sorryif I offended any hockey fans i know it's a rough sport but no one has the right to take away a persons livelyhood. |

You're thinking of Steve Moore and Todd Bertuzzi. Moore was paralyzed
after the hit (I can't remember if he's recovered somewhat or not) and yes if anyone ever deserved jail time for an on-ice incident it was Bertuzzi. However you last comment about taking away someone's livelyhood extends to more than hockey in fact it's about 100 times worse in football. The next time there is a pro football game (regular season I suppose) see how many times a player tackles at the knees or crackback blocks. Hockey is rough and I should know having played it for more than a few years but there's also a lot more respect among players than in other sports. |

I agree Derf all illegal hits in sports should looked at. darryl stingly
of the new england patroits was paralyzes from the waist down by jack tatum in the 70's and was still allow to play. Many players in baseball have been beaned and never came back. It's sad that the sprotsmanship can be lost sometimes. |

I am a sports fan. I like just about all sports and the competetive
nature that it brings. In light of this, this guy should be banned from hockey for life. Only this type of punishment will make players really think about there actions. |

I agree it's no longer the "fire wagon" hockey of the 80's but part of
that is due to the way hockey (and all sports) go through changes. Over the years you're going to see the scores fluctuate (GPG wise) because teams begin to play more wide-open and then a few years later they will play more defensively it just goes in cycles. Having said that they need to let the enforcers do their job and protect their teamates; nobody is scared of going to New York for a meeting to have their punishment set, on the other hand having someone like Laraque dish it out next period and having to get a new bridge might make some of these guys think wice before swinging away. It worked in the eras of Eddie Shore and "Hammer" Schultz didn't it? |
