My take on that:

The food industry is trying to sell cheap food (or resembles food)

The drug industry is trying to sell pills (this one will make you small)
The booksellers are trying to sell "Diets for Dummies" (no pun intended)

And

The motivational gurus are trying to sell you a whole new life (self-assembly required / batteries not included)

Everyone has a bottom line and maybe theirs are not necessarily in the best interest of our bottom lines (or our big bottomed pantie lines). But if any of these profiteering industries help someone to lead the life they want, motivates them to reach a personal goal, or just plain tastes too darn good to pass up, then so what?

We all make our own decisions as to what we eat, how we exercise ,IF we exercise, and what avenues we take to achieve our goals...be it popping pills, sweating hard or through osmosis.

I truly believe that we are a country of educated people who can think for ourselves and are not molded masses controlled by the whims of the media. Please! laugh

right on sista..i eat cause i likes it!!

I think the real lesson here is that propoganda kills. I doubt that many of these girls that are starving themselves to death actually grew up hoping they would some day have the willpower to starve themselves.

In my opinion...anorexia is the symptom. Propoganda is the disease.

.....How F------ up straight bimstone its the media and it's seduction of the masses that has confused it all for so many, weight is a different thing to different cultures at different places in time....in the middle ages women whom had money were more plump and considered to be beautiful...I grew up with twiggy being the Icon in JR high when girls are most impressionable, the average women statistically in united states in her middle age category is a size 14, yet to general society this is considered a big or thick girl....look @ the old 40s 50s pinups they'al had some hips and thighs on um....it's really a loaded subject ! Being the parent of a teenage girl it pisses me off because she is beautiful, kinda Avrialesk and she has just started dealing with a set of hips that showed up this year, society says causes she doesn't fit in her skinny jeans like last yr she is less desirable, as a mom I say f--- society she rocks because she is smart-funny-fun & beautiful at any size !!!! the first little b-----d that ever calls her fat is gonna find my foot stuck in his Colon !!!

Of course thier are people who are irresponsable & not healthy. I have friends I would like to see lose weight for thier health, as well as some that should quit smoking & drinking .But drug users & alcoholics are socailly more acceptable than fat chicks!

I smoke, and I aacept responsibility for my smoking, and it's efects. I don't start threads whining about how I am not accepted in a eating establishment with my cigs. I do not complain in threads about how I have to stand 50 feet from a business entry way while smoking, nor about the women who will not date me because of the smoke. Smoking is a choice that I made, as the MAJORITY of big people choose a lifestyle that creates their situation. The bottom line is it is personal choice. Big people attacking thinner people, bigger people attacking thinner people, smokers v. non-smokers, the story goes on and on. Whatever your personal choices are do not play a vicitm, take responsibility for the decisions YOU make that create your situation. You must also accept that not everyone is going to like you, appreciate you, or respect you for living our life the way you see fit OR a multitude of other reasons. Life goes on, ignore it, deal with it, laugh about it, cuss about it, bury it or wear it. Life goes on

I agree with this Rob. I hope you do not see me as a whiner. I am trying to help people feel better about themselves, but not at any one else's expense.

not at all hen. I just quoted you because of the smoking part. I have NEVER seen you start one of these threads. I think you bring valid points into the discussion, and have actually made me rethink some of my positions. I always know that you and hiker will add life to a thread laugh laugh . I also hope that you do not see me as a hater, because I am not. I would just like for people to understand that personal preference in ones dating life doesn't always equate to hate, and those who are rejected levying some of the rhetoric they do on the rejector makes them more spiteful than the other indvidual. Preference is not hate, it is personal choice.

I keep trying to tell you people it isn't about what is on the outside that counts!! It is what's on the inside. You could be the ugliest fattest person on the outside and be the most beautiful person on the inside!! We as a society are stupid when it comes to this!!! God made each of us an individual and different for a reason!!! happy Besides larger fluffier women sometimes have more to offer because they are shoved to the side for the little skinny women.

Well that may be true, but not all of us can get past that. I have to be attracted to my lover. Just do. Sorry. And I am not 'into' a person who is majorly overweight. I'm into keeping healthy and fit. I would enjoy the same with that person.

But that's okay cuz there's someone for everyone ...
