and be sure to put plenty of 40-weight on your head. that's what the 'hell's angels' do, and their hair is almost GQ quality!
......moofoogas got a great point also! Your hair can get abused terribly! Man I don't have to put 20/50 harley oil in my hair to get the GQ badass effect. 10 years straight sturgis rally and multiple other rallies and roadrides and 100,000 miles on two wheels I've had everything in my hair. Birds, birdsh!t, batsh!t, bugs, bugs, bugs, mud, salt, sand, roadgrime, and completely covered in 20/50 harley davidson motor oil because the butthead bastard in front of me didn't change his freaking rocker box seals before the 600 mile ride and covered me. The tip here? If you have long hair and you are going through an abusive environment keep it tied up or covered.

Shampoos? This month I'm using pantene ice. Its clean. Its clear. Its low in alcohol. And its new and at walmart. Next month? Herbal essence orange clear. Month after that? Salon selectives clean in the blue bottle. At work I can use heavier shampoos like aussie or regular pantene because I somedays have a toxic dirty job. But I don't use them all the time.

... and your body dissapates over 50% of its heat through the top of your head...

LHB This part of what you're saying is urban legend/old wives' tale stuff. EVERY mom says this to their kids trying to get 'em to wear a hat in winter.

Your scalp doesn't lose any more heat than most of the rest of your body. The nape of the neck, your wrists, and lower back are actually the places most susceptible to heat loss.

But the wax and oil warning about shampoos is a good one.
READ THE INGREDIENTS! STAY AWAY FROM MINERAL OIL!
All sorts of expensive "moisturizers" use it because it feels good and looks like it's working.

Mineral Oil is a petroleum by-product. (Back to the 20-50 motor oil here) It clogs pores and attracts dirt.

As for shampoos and conditioners? Try different ones. Many different ones. Many many different ones. Been to the wal mart shampoo aisle lately? Omg! Yeah. Some tips? Ok your hair needs to be clean to be healthy. Many shampoos have large amounts of detergent and alcohol in them both bad for your hair. The shampoos that are so thick and non opaque (can't see through them) are full of detergent, alcohol, and wax which clogs pores.

About 4 months ago, I switched to organic soy protein shampoo and conditioner and it made a world of difference in my hair. It's tons less frizzy and I get complements on the shinniness all the time. I have also found conditioner containing Biotin helps with the thinning of my hair.
I agree about heat. I try to dry my hair naturally as often as possible.

Ok HERE'S a secret I bet you didn't know! Your hair gets used to your shampoo and conditioner and it becomes less effective at around 30 days! So top stylists tell me to change your shampoo and conditioner every bottle full or every 30 days whichever comes first. And I learned this in 1989 and changing every 30 days really works. My hair is personally healthier. Try it, you will thank me later.

you can also mix your shampoo with a quarter size of baking soda and wash your hair with it...it strips all the build up off and leaves your hair beautiful shiny and softbigsmile

But baking soda and beer treatments to strip deposits should not be used all the time. They also dry out hair. I'm glad you guys are paying attention.

A question asked to my cosmetologist friday was "are hot oil treatments good for your hair?" answer: "yes, in moderation like anything else. No more than once a month."
