Spent almost $1200 on this laptop and they have the worst customer service I have EVER seen. They are slow and very incompetent. I got asked FIVE times for a credit card number I told them that I did not have in the first place.

I only contacted them tonight cause my DVD/CD burner started making this really loud vibrating sound. Now they want to send me the part for me to fix it myself! There piece of crap system breaks down and I am the one that has to fix it? WTF!

Sorry I really needed to vent. Anybody else ever have a problem with this company? I could go one but it would just be out of anger.

It is not even like I do anything with my laptop. I only use it to play DVD's on it cause I do not like Vista at all.

GRRR

OK rant is stopping here. Thanks for reading and dropping by!...LOL.

Them shipping you the URP (user replaceable part) is normal. It's not like you'll need to open the system up or anything like that. You'll just need to slide a switch, pop out the defective drive and slide the new drive in. smokin

It's difficult to avoid HP products as for some reason everyone keeps buying them so they've expanded and bought Compaq and Acer, etc. Don't get me started on HP printers. . .

Good luck to you with their customer service. Maybe find a local, reputable, PC repair shop that can give you some insight/advice as to what's wrong with the thing. BOL!

I had a Hewlett-Packard printer (820cse) some years ago, and it worked great most of the time. But every once in awhile it would decide to proclaim "Printer Driver Busy" when nothing was printing and nothing was in the queue. Tech Support never did give me any help (despite hours on hold) and I eventually bought an Epson.

Awe!!! Crap, I just purchased a new HP laptop online. What type did you get? I got the 9700t 17 incher because I read they were pretty decent. I was going to go for dell, but I read a lot on how BAD their custormer serive is. All these companies suck!!

I was going to go Macbook Pro but couldn't get myself to lay down 2500 for a laptop sick

hp in itself i don't have a problem with, i've owned many and not had any real problems to speak of. on the flip side, like most large companies, they don't do their own tech support. they hire an outside company usually located over seas somewhere (i believe hp uses a company in india) most of which don't speak very good english and read from a poorly translated script and have no real clue what their talking about. just a suggestion, if you want real help with an hp product find a local hp service center which is normally a small company located in just about every major city that is subcontracted to fix their products. at least then they will actually look to see what the problem is and can talk to you in a language you understand.

i just bought a dv9700t from hp online, had everything downgraded except windows vista ultimate 64bit and the intel 2.5 core 2 duo processor. did the rest of the upgrades by myself off newegg. put 2 320 gb hard drives, 4 gb ram and a few other things. so far it's more powerful then any other one they sell and only cost me 900$ give or take.

Before you jumpt to conclusions on the DVD burner check your CD or DVD.

Is the label on securely?
Is it flat, peeled back?
That can cause it to vibrate.

Does the disc have a fleck of dirt or other stuff on it?

Is the disc cracked?

These things will make it vibrate.

Did you by chance leave a piece of the label in the burner?

Is it brand new? Are you sure you removed the "paper holder" that was in it? New users sometimes forget this.

Are you positive you had the disc in straight and the disc secured properly?

Try another disc.

I am retired but I was a lab manager and buyer for years and HP is tops, better than Dell, sometimes even better than Apple. Taken care of their stuff lasts decades. I still have their original color printer and scanner; both work flawlessly, 20 years on!

I have two HP desktop computers. In fact, the one I use the most (and I’m using right now) is the oldest, it’s probably over 15 years old. I’ve never had a problem with it in either software or hardware.

The biggest problem with it is that it works so good I’m reluctant to upgrade. laugh

My newer HP did burn up. But that wasn’t the computer’s fault. My cat knocked down some papers behind the computer and blocked the cooling fans so it over heated. I replaced the motherboard with a generic replacement and I’m still using the original drives, etc. It was past warranty anyway.

So I never had to deal with their customer service. Best computers I ever bought though. bigsmile

I feel confident that if it hadn't been for my cat the other HP would still be running on original equipment.

I have the pavilion dv6000 It looks pretty and has a lot of nice options, but shortly after I bout it the finish on the touch pad started to bubble and come off. When it came time to make my recovery disc it would not burn properly, so I had to get them to send me one. Man you think I was asking them for the soul just trying to get that. And now the problem with the CD/Burner. I finnaly got them to send me a new one. Took me almost 20 minutes online with somebody that seemed like they did not know how to speak English. Man I was getting so frustrated with them.

I much rather have them send me the part. Cause something about shipping out my laptop to them that I just $1200 a few months ago just does not appeal to me. I know somebody that is a computer tech so he can do it.

It got so bad last night, it got to the point that I just started copy and pasting answers cause he kept asking me the same questions over and over again. It was like talking to a machine.

I do not see myself buying another HP product in the future. There customer service needs to be flushed down the toilet s far as I am concerned. And I am sorry to anybody that works for them....LOL

Thanks but like I said all I have ever really down was use my laptop as a DVD player. So it is not that new. And yes, I have tried many different discs and even rebooting and all that. Still a VERY loud noise. And new one will be shipped to me in about 7-9 days. It took me so long in arguing with them just to get him to send it to me with out a credit card. They just really do not know what customer satisfaction is.

And I mentioned to my friend that I wanted to get a job at Bell ( our local phone company and internet) but then realized that they would not hire me cause A) I speeck English and B) Cause I know what I would be doing....LOL.

I feel for you, whisper. It can be indeed, frustrating. I remember seeing a news article on Google a couple of weeks ago about a lady in Maryland who bought a laptop from BestBuy and had a service issue with her laptop.

Talk about your incompetent service, they were giving her the run around for weeks on end telling her that her laptop wasn't ready until finally they admitted to her that they lost it.

She is now suing them because of all of the sensitive data that was contained on her hard drive could be easily used for identify theft type of crimes.

What I found really hilarious was the compensation that was initially offered for her troubles by the store. What a joke!
