I'm a stay at home single mom and I don't feel I have to answer to anyone. If you are not paying my bills, it is frankly none of your business.

Why didn't you just say so in the first place. However, there is no need to defend yourself or answer any questions on your income. I wasn't putting you down by no means. I just don't understand the term, that's all!

How hard is it to understand????
Single stay at home mother---a mother who is not married and is home to raise her children....

Ok already, I apologize for offending you!

well...yeah...God knows a woman couldn't be successful and have money saved up or invested so she could stay home with her children......
Ever hear of financial planning???????

Why are you so quick to defend yourself, when no is attacking you. I'm happy for you and all your great choices and your ability to carry them out!

I think shes Beendrinker

No, I have not been drinking. Maybe all those who can't figure out a simple definition have been.
You say you are not assuming anything, but your original post states:"Are you really saying, "I need someone to take care of me and my children"? " Isn't that an assumption?

Could someone please tell me exactly what the heck this is! I mean, How do you do this? How do you make it? Are you really saying, "I need someone to take care of me and my children"?

I was raised by a single mother of three chilren and she didn't have time to stay at home. She was always working to keep food on the table and a roof over our head! There were a lot of things we didn't have, but we never went without! I could only imagine what it would have been like if she would have stayed at home and never went to work and hoped that child support rolled in every month.

Just asking, because I don't understand it.

To all the hard working single mothers out there, My hat is off to you!

But Thomas - wouldn't your mom have liked it if she didn't have to work? There is nothing wrong with that, if the woman has the means. Why should she work just to prove that she can? I certainly wish I had had the means to do so, I would have.

Not an assumption, merely a question!
I do understand though that two people can look at the same thing and see something totally different!
And... No one pinpointed you!

I wish I could have stayed at home with my daughter until she was in school all day at least. Kids need thier Moms. But I had no choice, I refused to raise her on welfare, & I had no resources. Planning ahaed so you can stay home is best, but I was young & in love...

I'm sure she would have loved too! I didn't say anything was wrong with it. Just a question, that's all.

P.S. My mother owns a chainsaw too! and knows how to use it!

This is such a huge issue & one that is very emotional. My daughter is 25 , has 2 degrees & a greta job, I still feel guilty about not being home with her when she was little, is guilt just a natural part of being a mother?

Coming from the son of a single mother that spent my whole childhood working just as you did. Don't feel guilty, I believe that we as children of single parents understand. Ultimatly, it gives us a special bond that few understand! I hope that you feel that, you worked so hard so your daughter wouldn't have to.

My hats off to you too littleredhen!

Well TY but I was just doing what needed to be done. A mother's 1st job is choosing a great father, I failed from the start. BUT I have an awesome kid & she turned out great in spite of my shortcomings.

That is why Im in school, should have done it years ago. But have just realized what life is really about. My son means the world to me, and although his dad isn't in the picture, has helped me finacially where I am able to go to school and spend my time with my little guy. I know this won't last forever, so Im greatful to every minute he is here with me.flowerforyou And hopefully my schooling will lead me in the finacial direction where we are comfortable and never struggling.

I stayed with my daughter till she was 4 or 5, and when she was 8, she told me all about how the babysitter did perverted things back when she was 5, and we put them in jail for it. For this reason and others, it's always better for parents to raise their child without other caretakers. Some people have the means to do that, some don't. Some can't afford childcare, either.

This thread and other opinion threads always have the potential to offend others, and you're always going to get an argument out of it one way or another.

It probably would've been wiser to say something about not wanting someone with no income vs. "picking" on moms who want to be with their children. That hits way too close to home for a lot of women.

Just my two cents flowerforyou

Your probably right! I was picking on anyone intentionally! If you read my post you'll see that I have the deepest respect for mothers, single or not, stay at home or working!

I went back to school when my daughter was 4; got my degree when she was 7. It was the best thing I ever did for her.

She is going to Spain in June, and to college in the fall.
